Ozzy joined The Foster Dog House from a rural NC shelter after being found as a stray and never reclaimed. It seems he may have been on the run for a bit as he's still got some weight to gain back but his high metabolism keeps him lean. Typical for a GSP, Ozzy rarely stops moving so he will need a home able to provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. He thrives with long walks/hikes and brain games. He is particularly obsessed with his donut toy which he carries around all day long. With practice, he has learned the art of doing nothing and he does chill/tire out. He really loves affection and loves to nap ON his humans. He's a tall & strong German Shorthaired Pointer (~55lbs) who likely needs a 6ft fence to be safe. He lets you know where all the birds and squirrels are. and due to his innate prey drive we don't recommend an environment with any small animals. He is truly a velcro dog and is constantly under foot and wants to know what you're doing. He is housebroken, walks well on a leash (we use a gentle leader), and does sleep in his crate as well as throughout the day. Ozzy does well with other dogs in the home given ample time to be introduced slowly. He's dog neutral when walking or in a brewery setting but he does not care for dogs in his face or who may come on too strong (he lets us know he's uncomfortable). He does not need to be a solo dog but adopters will need to be familiar or be open minded about slow introductions with resident dogs and how well that might take. He adjusted quicker to our more mellow pointer. Ozzy is heartworm negative, kept on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, UTD on vaccines, and neutered & microchipped. Ozzy’s adoption fee is $300. If you are interested in adopting, please go to our website and fill out an application. www.thefosterdoghouse.org
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ozzy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
