There is nothing that I love more than a black dog with a sweet innocence about them that just radiates from them. Tookie Bear is like muffin-level sweet and that's not an exaggeration. He also has the cutest bottom bubble lip that pokes out that I am completely obsessed with and has the most perfectly distributed white on his feet. It honestly looks like he just barely dipped front toes in paint and they just stayed that way. Enough about the minor things I'm obsessed with but Tookie Bear truly is the best. He is incredibly dog friendly, a gentle sweetheart, he loves the water, and has the best zoomies! He's the type that is going to check off all the boxes on your wish list if you have one. Watch his video and fall in love with this sweet boy: https://youtu.be/2C4kODuLBZE?si=0indWLxl5hYvbVCt Tookie Bear is believed to be a pittie/lab mix approximately 1 year old, currently weighs 43 lbs, and has a beautifully blended coat mixed with black and brown making him out to be this chocolately perfection. Tookie is very dog friendly and has done great with all of the dogs we have introduced him to. He is so great with other dogs that we have even used him as an assessment dog from time to time. He is a submissive boy that loves to play chase and zoom around the yard with his doggy friends. Chase is definitely his favorite and preferred game to play with other dogs. He's not the rough and rowdy type and will immediately roll over on to his back if play gets a little too rough. You can say he's a gentle and dainty guy when it comes to play time. Tookie loves being around other dogs and really opens up the most around them. Even if they aren't playing with him and they are just hanging out, he seems to just really enjoy the company of another dog. He is totally content going off and doing his own thing or zooming around by himself if the other dogs aren't interested in playing. Although, he does has this charm about him that rubs off on all the dogs and he can get even the grumpiest of dogs to love him. He is a wonderful dog's dog. We believe Tookie would thrive in a home with another dog or even in a multi dog home. If you watched Tookie's video, then you saw just how much he loves to be outside and hoe incredibly happy he is zooming around. Tookie Bear would thrive in a home with a backyard where he can get the zoomies, play in the rain puddles, and romp around with his newly adopted doggy sibling(s). He can be a little shy at first in new environments and will love it for his family to help him build his confidence with new things. Tookie Bear is treat motivated, eager to please, and is fairly easy to walk on a leash. He can get a little nervous with unexpected loud noises or if a loud car drives by, but that can make us all jump. Happens to me all the time LOL! From what we have seen so far, Tookie has incredible house manners and is crate trained and potty trained. He has a perfectly balanced energy that can match the vibe of what you need him to be. If you work from home, he'll be a quite companion keeping you company. If you're someone who loves to have movie marathons on the couch, Tookie will be right there with you. He also will be your personal backyard entertainment making you smile from ear to ear when you watch him get the zoomies in the backyard. We have not seen Tookie Bear with kids just yet and we can absolutely test that for you. Based off what we have seen so far, we believe he would make a great family dog with kids 5 and up. We are willing to test Tookie Bear with anything you need us to in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
