My story

Lazlo is the kind of dog who knows when it’s time to play fetch and when it’s time to flop across your lap like a 60-pound sigh.He’s four years old, housetrained, and gentle with kids and other dogs. He plays fair. He snuggles like a pro. He’s mastered the basics -- sit, stay, paw -- because of course he has. Lazlo’s a very good boy with a solid resume.And when it comes to other dogs? He’s a social optimist. He lights up when another dog wags at him, all eager to make friends. And if they bark or growl? Lazlo just walks away, like, “No hard feelings. I’ll go sniff something else.”He’s sweet, silly, and ridiculously well-behaved. Basically, if you asked a dog to be everything good about dogs, you’d get Lazlo.So why is this dog -- this wonderful, loyal, loving dog -- living in a shelter?Because someone looked at his very normal, not-at-all-pit-bull face and said: “Eh… too square.”That’s it. That was the logic. And just like that, his military family, who’d done everything right to bring him along to their next duty station, was told no -- no Lazlo allowed.Their hearts broke. So did ours.This family had already given up comfort, stability, and home after home for the sake of service. And now they had to give up their dog, too?That’s not how this should go.Lazlo had spent three years excelling as someone’s hiking buddy, cuddle companion, road trip co-pilot, and best friend. He brought joy when things were heavy and calm when things were loud. He knows how to love.And now he’s ready to do it all over again.If you’re looking for a dog who knows how to be part of the team -- who reads the energy, rolls with the chaos, keeps the peace, and even offers you a paw while doing it -- come meet Lazlo.He's waiting for you at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.Visiting hours are daily from 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.PLEASE SHARE.
