Meet Copper! We are smitten with this boy -- he has such a fun, affectionate personality, and we love spending time with him.Copper was transferred to us from another rescue. He wasn't getting much adoption interest, so they asked if we could take him into our care and do some training. He joined the other pups at our prison program initially; that environment was a bit overstimulating for him, so Copper has been working directly with our staff at our farm location. The quieter environment is a better fit for him.Copper has a ton of energy. He wants to explore and play and run run run. We have focused on teaching him some valuable life skills that will make handling easier and also helping him practice calm, relaxed behaviors. He was initially found abandoned and emaciated at a local lake, so he didn't have the best early development experienced -- to say the least. Our behavior plan has involved showing Copper how to appropriately interact with people and what to do when he's frustrated or super excited. He has comes leaps and bounds through training, and now we're ready to hand the treat pouch over to his adoptive family. We think he's best suited to a home with adults and maybe dog-savvy teens. Copper has done well with other medium to large dogs in the past, but due to his prey drive, he shouldn't live with small animals. He needs a nice mix of physical exercise and activity coupled with quiet downtime each day. Someone who hikes would be fantastic, as he's endlessly curious and loves to be outside. In fact, he'll entertain himself with toys in a fenced yard for as long as you let him.We would be remiss if we didn't mention that Copper is a big, BIG fan of head massages. Any massage is appreciated, but he melts when you rub his head and neck. He loves to be around people, he thinks all toys are the best toys, and he's willing to try new foods but seems pretty sure that fruits are not for him.At just over 2 years old, Copper has a whole, fun life ahead of him. Do you want to be his best friend? For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Copper, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
