Dog’s Name: Ollie Breed: Retriever X Weight: 70lbs Gender: Male Spayed/neutered: Neutered Age: Approx 3 years Reason for Intake: Owner Surrender Medical (shots etc): fully vetted Good with dogs: Yes, currently fostered with husky x Good with cats: Unknown Good with kids: Yes, 10+ Good with strangers: Yes Guarding issues: Mild Ever bitten a human: Unknown Ever bitten a dog: Unknown Behavioural issues: Resource guarding of food and toys (with other dogs) but improving with positive exposure. Barrier is recommended between dogs at feeding. Housetrained: Yes, able to last about 4 hours without potty. Crate trained: No and seems to have some fear of them. Destructive when left alone: No Barks when left alone: Possible / Unknown Leash skills: Very good Handling issues: Working to improve on more gentle hand feeding and toy retrieval. Known commands: Recalls to name. Sit. Food on now: Purina Pro Plan Sport Medical issues: Lyme Disease which is being treated with a month of doxy Personality, likes/dislikes: Ollie is a wonderful and loving pup who is very eager to please and be near his people. Ollie frequently seeks physical contact for reassurance and will be happiest by your side. A Velcro dog through and through, Ollie should feel welcome to sit beside you in bed or on the couch but will seek out cooler hard floors as needed. Ollie prefers shorter suburban strolls, has some very mild lameness in one limb, likely from the Lyme (which is being treated), and is most comfortable walking in cooler temps. Ollie loves toys of all types but will require “tough chewer” brands and toy access should be monitored in case of destruction / guarding. Ollie loves children but food and treats should be managed by adults until he’s practiced taking treats gently more consistently. Best home scenario: Ollie will need a home with fenced yard as he generally does not potty on walks, preferring to eliminate in his own space. Though infrequently heard, Ollie has a loud bark. Ollie will make a wonderful addition to a families with adults only or older children as high value resources such as food and toys will need to be actively managed and monitored. Ollie can currently last about 4 hours without any potty so lunch visits, pet friendly office, or work from home scenarios will set him up for the best success. His future owners must be able to provide necessary vetting in the future. Ollie should never have to feel the need to compete for food, water, toys or treats moving forward in his life. He's a lovely boy and we looking forward to receiving your application at: https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/dog-adoption-application-2/ to make him part of your family June 24, 2025, 8:18 am
