My story

Meet Janis, the sweetest little shadow who’s learning what love, safety, and snuggles are all about. Clocking in at under 8 lbs, Janis may be little, but she makes a huge impression. Based on her body language and behaviors, we suspect she was used as a backyard breeder dog and likely kept in a small crate for much of her life. It’s possible she had little-to-no exposure to a home environment — no walks, no freedom to explore, and not much affection. Despite that heartbreaking past, Janis is blooming. She’s incredibly loving, gentle, and trusting. Every day she shows more curios, more confidence, and we see more of her sweet personality. Janis has quickly adapted to a routine that includes nailing potty training and short, confident walks. Janis doesn’t show signs of separation anxiety, but she definitely prefers to be near her people. When her foster family is home, she follows them from room to room (as does their resident dog,— she may just be copying him!). When they leave, she settles in a gated area and relaxes after a few barks. She’s not destructive, and she’s quiet through the night. Janis has met lots of people, kids, cats, and dogs of all sizes. She’s warm and friendly to everyone. She can be a little shy at first, and is cautious with large dogs — especially if they get too close too quickly — but she warms up fast and is always respectful. Her favorite things are being near her people, cuddling, and watching the world go by from the patio. She adores curling up anywhere cozy. Janis would do well in many types of homes. She’s gentle, affectionate, and adaptable. She’s good with kids, cats, and calm or respectful dogs. If there’s a large dog in the home, a slow introduction is best. She’d thrive with someone who’s around often, at least during her continued transition, and who’s ready to offer love, patience, and plenty of soft places to nap. Janis is a treasure — funny, kind, and so very deserving of the safe, happy life she’s just beginning to discover. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt her is truly in for something special.
