THIS POST WILL BE REMOVED WHEN THE DOG IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. INQUIRIES ABOUT THE ADOPTION STATUS WILL NOT BE RETURNED. Check out this lovely little redhead! Gladys (aka Ruby Sue) is a 4 yr old red long hair female dachshund recently released from the commercial breeding industry. She's a very sweet little girl that's very nervous and skittish when she first meets you due to her past experience with people. But once she feels she can trust you, she's a snuggly, happy little girl that would love to spend all her time with you. And she's starting to show glimpses of a fun personality just waiting to come out. Gladys enjoys spending time with other small dogs. She loves to run and play, so would absolutely love to have a young playful canine friend in her forever home. She will require another small dog in her forever home to help model appropriate behaviors. She might be OK with a larger dog in the house (she seems interested in them) but definitely needs a dog her size to run and wrestle with. Gladys loves toys. She doesn't really play with them, she hoards them. Her canine companion needs to be willing to share toys, because she's sneaky and will take toys from everyone else. The same with food and treats. She figures that since she's willing to share, everyone else should be, too. She's not food aggressive at all. Just nosy and likes to taste what others have. Gladys does well in the kennel. Although she would prefer not to be in the kennel, she's quiet and waits patiently for you to let her out. Gladys is struggling with potty training. She's very nervous outside. Any noise startles her, causing her to run to the door and want inside. A securely fenced yard is a must for Gladys, but it would be even better if it was in a quiet area/on a quiet street. (Added bonus for a privacy fence!) Gladys is just starting to learn to walk on a leash. That's a work in progress, too. She does best paired with a confident dog with good leash skills. But again, loud noises will startle her and she'll try to run from them. Gladys has a fun, silly side that she's just starting to show. She gets a little sassy when you take too long to make meals. She makes canine friends easily and loves to play with them. She loves to snuggle with you while you watch TV or work on the computer. (Bonus points for belly rubs!) Gladys still has some "baggage" from her past. Like she won't come to you if you're standing up. You need to sit down. She will hide under or behind furniture when anxious. Since she's nervous with sudden/loud noises, she will do best in a fairly quiet home with no small kids. With patience and a little time, Gladys is going to be a fantastic little dog. The suggested adoption donation for Gladys is a minimum of $500 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to an extended geographical area as long as we can locate a local volunteer to perform the required home visit. Approved adopters are required to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny". All of our dogs that come from a commercial breeding facility require a securely fenced yard AND a resident companion dog, unless the dog's bio states otherwise. Please note, invisible or underground fencing is not considered secure or appropriate containment. Adoption applications can be found at www.wagntrainterrierrescue.com/adoption-information
