We love schnauzers! And we love super senior toothless antiques! So it shouldn’t surprise you that we love Old Roy 💜 This guy was found in rough shape and seemed very old, scared, tired, and sad according to our contact at the very crowded local county shelter Sop of course we immediately agreed to squeeze him in. If they have no teeth they don’t really count as a real dog anyway, right? 😜 He has dry eye that had been untreated for a long time and we had to soak off so much crust under his eyes. He would at first just stand in corners hanging his head like Eeyore and squinting his eyes , in a lot of pain from an eye ulcer and scared and confused. He’s feeling much better and perked up a bit, especially around other dogs and follows them around the yard now with his head and tail up. We aren’t sure how well he hears or sees and he may have some cognitive issues starting, but he does well in a routine, loves to eat, and still knows to go to the bathroom outside as soon as he’s taken out, and has a lot of arthritis and old age issues but nothing too grave right now. He’s definitely an end-stage schnauzer, probably in his teens, and looking for a schnauzie lover that will give him a soft quiet place to land and enjoy quality naps on the softest fluffiest beds. He’s been a cooperative patient at the vet and excellent for eye drops. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Old Roy in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Old Roy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
