Meet Gracie, an adorable former breeding mam who is ready to begin the rest of her life with a family of her own. 7-year-old Gracie had many litters of puppies over the years but was surrendered to Brookline when her breeder decided it was time for Gracie to retire. She has been in a foster home 5 weeks learning all about life as a house pet and has become a fantastic companion. She has a thick, shiny and slightly wavy black coat and soulful brown eyes which compliment her calm, friendly and loving personality. She learned her house training quickly and adjusted to life as a house pet without any issues. Her agreeable calm approach to life will make her a wonderful and easy to care for pet. Gracie has been a good girl when left in the house without her people for up to 5 hours, always with the company of another dog. She enjoys free roam of the house without any signs of mischief and can be relied on to behave herself. Gracie is on the heavy side (99 pounds) which comes from her former life having litters of puppies and living in a situation without regular exercise. For her safety, our vet recommends that she lose enough weight to get down to 85 pounds before undergoing her spay surgery. Given this weight loss goal, Gracie is not yet spayed and will be adopted out with a contract requiring that her new owner has her spayed once her weight is low enough to ensure a safe surgery. So, she does come with some instructions and requirements to lose weight for her spay which means she needs a family who will be careful with her calories and get her lots of walks. She is great with men and women as well as kids. Gracie loves the other dogs in her foster home and is especially fond of the adult dogs (the youngster seems to get a bit annoying… but Gracie deals with the puppy energy like a good mama dog, offering corrections). She visited a house with cats and did very well meeting them and relaxing as they hung out together. She can live safely with cats in her forever home. If you would like to make room in your home for a relaxed, happy and loving black lab who loves pets and snuggles, enjoys walks and car rides, and will fill your house with sweetness, please apply to adopt!
