My story

Meet Maisie! A gentle three-year-old American Pitbull Terrier/Boxer mix currently living in Cullowhee, NC, whose essence is a sunbeam wrapped in a lightly golden coat with charming white accents. Maisie is a soft-hearted soul with a spirit deeply rooted in the woods she loves to explore. She thrives as a loyal companion, always keeping her trusted person in sight, whether she’s sunbathing quietly on the deck or tiptoeing across creek rocks like an elegant forest sprite. At 44 pounds, she is the perfect size to hike alongside her caregiver without tiring quickly, and she eagerly matches her pace to yours, listening for the words she knows so well: “let’s go,” “this way,” or “leave it.” Maisie has received formal training and understands many commands, but her truest strength is her unwavering devotion. She is timid with new people and takes her time to build trust, especially with men, but once her heart opens to you, it remains forever warm and steadfast. She is at her happiest wrestling with other playful dogs, tearing squeakers from stuffed toys, or chewing her Nyla bone treat holder on a lazy afternoon. She thrives in a calm, outdoor-focused environment with plenty of room to roam. Maisie needs a home in a quiet rural setting where she can soak up fresh air and forest scents daily, with another playful dog companion to help her feel secure. While she is affectionate and alert, she experiences significant separation anxiety if left alone, so she would love a family where someone is home often to offer comfort and companionship. Maisie has a high prey drive and is not suitable in a home with cats or small animals, and while she isn’t much of a swimmer, she’s a peaceful boat passenger ready to watch the water ripple under the sun. Her sweet quirks include chasing deer with graceful determination and curling up contentedly once back home, her golden coat catching the last rays of the day.
