My story

Meet Whiskey, a 4-year-old German Shepherd with a gentle soul and a big presence—literally. Whiskey was surrendered when his owner’s work schedule changed, leaving him home alone too often. Now he’s looking for a new family who has the time and love to give him the companionship he deserves. Whiskey is calm, well-mannered, and easy to live with. He enjoys the simple things in life—being outside, going for swims, and hanging out with his people. He’s good with other dogs, has lived peacefully with a cat, and has done well with young kids. Just keep in mind he’s a big guy and may accidentally knock little ones over in his excitement. True to his breed, Whiskey has that classic shepherd bark to let you know someone’s at the door, but he’s friendly and polite once he knows you’re welcome. If you're looking for a loyal, laid-back adventure buddy with great house manners, Whiskey might be your guy. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
