My story

Beverly is a shy, quiet sweetheart who takes life at her own pace. She’s what we lovingly call a Spirit Cat—a feline companion for those who appreciate the quiet presence of a gentle, reserved kitty. While she may not seek out attention from visitors (especially if they’re a bit loud), Beverly will blossom slowly for her special person, showing up for quiet moments and head scratches when she feels safe. This indoor-only girl can be picked up on occasion, though she usually prefers to keep all four paws on the ground. You can pet her anywhere, although we're not sure about the belly, which is off limits for a lot of kitties. Beverly is happiest in a calm, predictable environment. She has done well with her feline friend Salem and would likely enjoy a peaceful home with another friendly, mellow cat or Salem, if you are thinking about adopting multiple kitties. If you're looking for a soft, serene companion and have the patience to let Beverly come out of her shell in her own time, she may be your purrfect match. Do you want to make a difference in a special kitty’s life? Consider adopting one of Dakin’s “Spirit Cats.” These cats are fearful of people and don’t require a lot of attention. What they do need is a place to park their paws in a quiet home where they’ll be loved just the way they are. One day, you may find that you’ve earned their trust and get head butts and maybe even a bedtime buddy. But there are no guarantees. Your visitors will never see them because they’ll quietly slip away and disappear into a closet. Spirit Cats may enjoy being around their own kind and sometimes make great companions for other cats. Are you ready to make a difference in a special kitty’s life? Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
