My story

This beautiful kitty with the stunning eyes is Cashmere. She is a special little kitty who is looking to find the perfect home. Cashmere and her siblings were rescued from a hoarding situation when they were only 2 weeks old. They grew up in one of our foster homes and most of Cashmere's littermates were adopted when they were young. Unfortunately, poor little Cashmere was the runt of the litter and had some challenges when she was growing. When Cashmere was 6 months old she was as tiny as an 8 week old kitten. She had test after test and saw a veterinary specialist, but the only thing that could be found to be causing her poor growth was an inability for her to properly digest her food. Poor Cashmere would eat and eat but she wasn't absorbing the nutrients from her food so she couldn't grow. The great news is that Cashmere has outgrown this issue and is now eating and digesting like a normal cat. She will always be tiny but Cashmere has the energy of a big cat! One of the downsides to Cashmere experiencing such a difficult kittenhood is that she is nervous of being handled. She had lots of tests and medications and injections when she was younger, so it made her hand-shy. Despite this, Cashmere has grown up in a home with people so she's very used to being around a family. She understands household sounds and is very interactive. She chats, and follows you around if she thinks that food might be on the horizon. If you are willing to give Cashmere a chance you can bet that she wont cuddle you, but she will entertain endlessly with her shenanigans. Due to the fact that Cashmere was 'starving' as a youngster, she is incredibly food motivated. If there is food in front of her, she will gobble it. This is beneficial to help with her socialization and bonding. However, Cashmere has the potential to become obese if she is allowed to free-feed. It will be very important that Cashmere has regular feedings with measure food amounts to keep her in a healthy body weight. Although Cashmere doesn't enjoy cuddles form people, she absolutely loves other cats. It will be really important for Cashmere to go to a home where there are other felines that will want to be her friend. She is very playful and wont be the right fit for an old or low-key cat. Cashmere loves to play and race around with her friends. Since she's small, she wont be the right fit for a large cat that wants to wrestle her, but a smaller kitty who wants to play race cars (zoomies) with her, would be great. Ideally, a friendly cat that will help Cashmere learn how to trust her new family, and to come out of her shell, will be best. Cashmere is not comfortable around children or dogs. If you'd like to learn more about Cashmere, please visit https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/ for more information about the adoption process and for a copy of our online adoption application.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cashmere, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
