My story

Petunia was brought to ACCT Philly on July 8th after being found as a stray. From the moment she arrived, Petunia has shown everyone just how sweet she can be. She’s known for her enthusiastic kisses, loves sitting on laps, and melts into cuddles with volunteers. While she does have some kennel-related dog reactivity and leash-biting behaviors—especially when overstimulated or frustrated—she has also shown moments of softness, calm, and playfulness. She knows "sit," enjoys stuffies, and thrives with positive attention. Petunia is looking for an adopter or rescue who can offer her enrichment, structure, and the chance to decompress outside the shelter environment. BEHAVIOR: Per volunteer 7/18: Leash biter. Loves, loves, loves to sit on lap + cuddle. Per volunteer 7/16: Leash biting out of kennel; settled down with time. Reactive through kennels. Per staff 7/13: During an adoption meet, Petunia was wiggly and puppy-like. Submissive crawls to you for pets. Was interested in toys but did not pick any up except for a stuffie. When taking back to kennel, began hard barking, hair raised, fixated at another dog walking by. Took several minutes to get her into kennel due to her fixation. Had to use quite a bit of leash pressure to get her back in kennel. Per staff 7/11: Love to be talked to. Per staff 7/10: Leash biter. Per staff 7/8: Really sweet girl, knows sits and loves to give you kisses. MEDICAL: On 7/12, Petunia was spayed. She was also diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus and is scheduled on doxycycline until 7/25. During her intake exam on 7/8, Petunia appeared to be in good health. Her eyes, ears, nose, and coat were clean and she had white teeth. She weighed 49.6 pounds. - ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly’s Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Petunia, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
