My story

Ah yes, presenting Sapphire Sky — because clearly, we ran out of ordinary names and went straight for "ethereal woodland fairy who probably sings to butterflies." Don’t let the celestial name fool you though — while she might sound like she belongs in a Disney princess lineup, Sapphire Sky is more like the introverted best friend in a coming-of-age movie. She’s got that “shy at first, but secretly the life of the party once she warms up” energy. Especially if the party involves other dogs — because with her furry friends? She's all sunshine and tail wags like she's been elected mayor of the dog park. But with people? You’ll need to earn her trust. She’s not handing out friendship bracelets on the first date, thank you very much. Once you're in though? Get ready for a happy, goofy, bouncy girl who just needed a little time to make sure you were worthy of the sparkle that is Sapphire Sky. Sapphire Sky is a 6-month-old, 40lb Great Pyrenees mix with a name fit for a fairy tale and the social confidence of a nervous barista on their first shift. This fluffy little stunner found herself at risk in the shelter before coming to us— because apparently, even sparkling gems can end up in rough places. Sapphire Sky is basically that kid at summer camp who spends the first day clutching their suitcase and side-eyeing the group games. She’s shy at first, quietly observing from the sidelines like she’s gathering intel before deciding who’s worthy of her friendship. But once she’s decided the other dogs aren’t complete weirdos? Game on. Suddenly she’s bouncing around like she’s been part of the crew forever, all happy tail wags and play bows. Cats? She’s got the classic “I love them so much I must chase them” mindset. It’s not aggressive — just a little overly enthusiastic. Basically, she thinks they’re fluffy little zoomie buddies who forgot the rules of tag. Tiny humans? The jury’s still out. She hasn’t spent much time around kids, but given her gentle soul and cautious nature, we suspect she’d do just fine in a home that lets her ease into new relationships—preferably without anyone trying to ride her like a pony. Sapphire Sky isn’t one to dive headfirst into social situations — she prefers to do a full emotional background check before offering you her friendship. Meeting new people? Picture this: you walk in, excited to meet her, and she sprints in the opposite direction like you just announced you’re selling timeshares. She’ll peek at you from across the room like, “Who sent you? And what are your intentions with my vibe?” But don’t take it personally — she just believes trust should be earned, not handed out like free samples at Costco. Give her a little time, and you’ll suddenly find her sitting next to you like you’ve been besties since birth. Sapphire Sky clocks in at a solid 6 out of 10 on the energy scale — think if a golden retriever and a sleepy house cat formed a strategic alliance. She’s playful and peppy when the mood strikes, especially with her doggy friends, but also perfectly content to vibe in her safe space and quietly judge your life choices. Leash walking is… situational. If it’s just you and her, she’s a pleasant little companion. Add in a crowd or a few strangers and she flips into “flight mode” like someone just yelled fire. A harness is a must, and bonus points if you walk like you’re dodging paparazzi — low-key and fast. Adventuring? Not really her jam right now. Sapphire Sky is more of a “let’s not and say we did” type when it comes to outings. She's still deciding whether the world is terrifying or tolerable. For now, she prefers home life, especially if that home comes with dogs she can cling to like an emotional support floor. Temperament-wise, she’s that friend who’s awkward at the party but then ends up dancing with the dogs in the backyard by the end of the night. Shy and unsure at first, especially with people, but once she gets comfy? She’s happy-go-lucky, goofy, and gently dorky in the best way. Toys are her love language. She doesn’t discriminate — if it squeaks, crinkles, or rolls, she’s claiming it and lovingly stashing it in her kennel like a tiny fluffy raccoon preparing for winter. And yes — she needs a secure setup. A fenced yard is recommended. If not, think Fort Knox on a leash. She’s got that “I just saw something mildly alarming and I’m choosing flight” energy, so plan accordingly. In summary: adorable, awkward, and totally worth the patience. Sapphire Sky is the soft-hearted underdog who’ll make you feel like a superhero once she decides you’re her person. Potty training? Nailed it. Sapphire Sky is a certified housebroken angel — one less thing for you to worry about while you’re busy winning her trust. As for the kennel? No drama here. She treats it like a cozy little retreat — not a prison cell. No escape attempts, no dramatic monologues, no Oscar-worthy performances. She just curls up, gets quiet, and patiently waits for her next moment of freedom like the polite, respectful floof she is. Honestly, she’s better at being chill in confinement than most humans during a Zoom meeting. Sapphire Sky is still a young dog, which means the laws of puppy physics absolutely apply. Translation? If it fits in her mouth, it’s probably going in her mouth. She's learning, she's trying — but she’s still got that youthful sparkle that occasionally leads to questionable decisions. So, if you're into the quiet, mysterious type just waiting to transform into a happy-go-lucky girl toy hoarding kind of gal, Sapphire Sky might just be your girl. But don’t get too excited just yet — you do have to fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app (yes, even if she already stole your heart through the screen), and you'll need to come scoop her up in glamorous Hutchinson, KS. No teleportation, no doorstep delivery — just good ol’ road trippin’. We’ll be here, fluff and all, waiting.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sapphire Sky, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
