My story

Meet Hurricane — She’s the four-legged weather event you actually want to head your way, complete with the kind of smile that makes your heart melt with the kind of cute light-colored spots that make you wonder if she was painted by a distracted toddler. Hurricane is part of our “Natural Disaster” litter, and while her name might suggest mass destruction, the only thing she’s likely to wreck is your ability to say no to her face. She came to us after… let’s just say someone got in way over their head in the dog department. Thanks to some teamwork with the local shelter, we were able to welcome 14 puppies from that situation into our fluffy butt family. She’s a 4–5 month old, 27-pound burst of sunshine with the cutest light-colored spots on her white fur and a smile that could melt even the grumpiest of weather forecasters. With so many dogs in her past, it’s understandable that she can still be a bit cautious — but every day, she learns a little more that she’s safe now, the food bowl is hers, and she can just focus on the important puppy things in life: playing, napping, and perfecting her “adopt me” smile. Hurricane is basically the Switzerland of the dog world — neutral, polite, and not here for your drama. She does great with other dogs, happily avoiding the cranky ones like they’re bad Wi-Fi and showering her Auntie Flora with sweet puppy kisses. She even adored meeting her foster’s parents’ dog, proving she’s got solid social skills when it counts. Cats? Well, she hasn’t met one yet, but she has met a 95-pound tortoise and treated it with the kind of cautious respect you’d give a celebrity in the wild. If she can handle a dinosaur in a shell, I’m guessing cats will survive the interaction just fine. When it comes to kids, Hurricane recently had the opportunity to meet four of them, ages 6–10. She considered the offer, weighed her options, and ultimately decided to watch the pint-sized chaos from a safe distance. Respectable choice. As for new people, Hurricane is not the “OMG HI PET ME NOW” type. If you’re expecting her to be front and center at the door, wagging her tail like you’re the best thing since cheese, think again. She prefers to hang back, assess the situation, and silently judge until she decides if you’re worth her tail wags. On the official Energy Level Scale, Hurricane clocks in at a solid 5 out of 10 — think “otter-meets-sloth.” She’s got the playful curiosity to explore and have fun, but she’s also perfectly happy flopping down mid-adventure like, “Yeah… that’s enough nature for one day.” Deep down, she’s got the makings of a confident little adventurer, once she fully realizes she’s never going back to her old life. Personality-wise, Hurricane started out as the quiet kid in the back of the class, but she’s warming up fast. These days, she’s quick to come in for pets, though she still occasionally gives you the “are you gonna love me or try to abduct me?” look when you raise your hand. But she’s learning that hands = affection, not alien abductions — and her new habit of smiling proves she’s getting the memo. Her hobbies are simple but relatable: eating and toys. If she’s not enjoying mealtime like it’s a five-star buffet, she’s living her best life with her toys — no drama, no complicated hobbies, just pure, uncomplicated joy. As for her future home? She’s flexible. Apartment, house, fenced yard, no fence — as long as she’s got her person, she’ll adapt. Give her a little time, a little patience, and maybe a few treats, and you’ll have yourself a loyal, spotted sidekick who’s part cautious observer, part growing adventurer, and 100% worth the wait. If you’re thinking about adopting Hurricane, here’s the fine print: she’s adorable, yes, but she’s still a puppy — which means you’re signing up for the “Build-a-Best-Friend” workshop. Step one: Socialization. Hurricane needs to meet all kinds of people, places, and pets so she doesn’t grow up thinking the mailman is plotting her downfall or that a shopping cart is a rolling death trap. Step two: Training. She’s smart, which is both a blessing and a loophole — she’ll learn quickly, but she’ll also figure out how to bend the rules if you’re not paying attention. Step three: Potty Training. She’s working on it, but your job will be to help her connect the dots that “outside = good” and “inside = nope.” And finally, Puppy Proofing. Not because she’s destructive, but because puppies have the curiosity of toddlers and the reach of a gymnast. If it’s low enough to sniff or interesting enough to investigate, she’ll probably check it out. Think of it as redecorating — Hurricane edition. Put in the time now, and you’re not just raising a great dog — you’re getting a loyal, spotted sidekick who will love you for life. So, here’s the deal — Hurricane is ready to trade in her “Natural Disaster” title for “Best Thing That Ever Happened to You.” She’s sweet, she’s smart, she’s rocking those light-colored spots like a supermodel, and she’s just waiting for a human who will teach her all the best parts of being a dog. Give her patience, love, and a few squeaky toys, and she’ll give you loyalty, laughs, and the occasional goofy smile that could melt steel. If you think you’re ready to ride out this little storm and come out the other side with the best companion you’ve ever had, you know what to do — fill out an adoption app at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can pass it along to her foster family. And yes, you’ll need to pick her up in Hutchinson, KS… because despite her name, Hurricane will not be blowing herself to your doorstep.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hurricane, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
