My story

Meet Kenai, the pup on patrol! At just 11 weeks old, this Malamute-Husky mix is already showing signs of being a thoughtful explorer. Whether he’s perched at the top of the hill keeping watch over the yard or sneaking a peek into the pool, Kenai is always taking in the world around him. He’s curious, clever, and incredibly intentional—when he wants pets, treats, or a play session, he’ll let you know in the most endearing way.Kenai is a natural adventurer who’s not afraid to lead the way. He was the first of his litter to climb into the wagon, hop up on a chair, and try to see what the humans were up to. He enjoys playing with his siblings, joining in on wrestling matches, and exploring every inch of the backyard. A securely fenced yard is a must for this active pup to roam and observe. He’s pen-trained, uses pee pads indoors, and is learning to go potty outside when given the chance. Crates don’t faze him—he travels in one for car rides and goes in and out of open crates at home. He’s food-motivated, bright, and eager to learn with a bit of encouragement and a tasty reward.Kenai enjoys the company of other dogs and dog-savvy kids. He would thrive in a home with a confident, well-mannered dog to continue showing him the ropes—especially when it comes to polite puppy behavior like reducing mouthiness. While not tested with cats, he’s shown a steady, respectful curiosity around the unfamiliar. A proper introduction is recommended.Like many northern breeds, Kenai prefers cool spaces and shady spots after playtime. He’ll need a home that can keep him comfortable in warmer weather. He’s generally quiet, but he has found his voice and may let out a deliberate little bark or howl to communicate—so he cannot live in homes with shared walls (no apartments/townhomes).Kenai is scheduled to be neutered on July 19 and will be ready for adoption shortly afterward. Are you ready to welcome Kenai as your perfect co-pilot?If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kenai, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
