My story

First some history: Short legged cats have been occasionally noted all around the world. In 1983 a music teacher rescued a pregnant cat hiding from dogs under a car. Due to a spontaneous genetic mutation she gave birth to a litter with short legs. From this mother, Blackberry, the Munchkin breed was developed. Persians, Himalayans and Exotic Shorthair Persians are interbred with Munchkins to make a"". They used to call these kitties "Napoleons" because Mr Bonaparte was small in stature but big in personality. In 2015 the name was changed to Minuet by the TICA ( The Intl Cat Assn ) and these cats were welcomed to the show ring. There is still controversy about the health consequences of their short stature but with their adorable appearance and their affectionate, cuddly, playful natures they are in high demand. Now there are more and more Munchkin mixed breeds like Sphynx (Bambino), American Curl (the Kinkalow) , The Selkirk Rex ( the Lambkin) are available. I myself have a rescued grey Scottish Fold Munchkin ( Mouse) who I adore. He like other Munchkins ( and Jolene) is very good at standing upright on his hind feet. So fun! Anyway little Jolene, as you can see, is a Persian Munchkin mix. She is about 6" from shoulder to floor which makes her very low to the ground. Lilieput the web tells me was named the "world's smallest" cat and she measured 5.25 to the shoulder. Average Munchkin height is 7-8" to the shoulder and a normal cat's shoulder height is 12". So how did this rare little red and white treasure find herself in a shelter? I don't know other than that she was owner surrendered. The shelter asked if we could take her in. Yes!!! Jolene was completely shaved down and very stressed out , hiding, not at all comfortable with how her life had been going. We were happy to give her the time to recover and the love she craved. She has settled in and come into her own. Now she shows us how much she loves humans and attention and playing and everything. What a doll baby she is. Jolene gets along easily with other friendly cats though I think she could be an only pet also. A social girl, she would like a home with family around much of the day for company. She would be fine with all but very young children. I don't know how she is with dogs. First and foremost she must always be carefully loved, treasured and protected in life. Some family will be so lucky to have the company of this rare loving, playful little girl. Jolene is spayed, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats wet and dry food, and is litterbox perfect. She is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz. Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pet and create an ideal forever home. If you believe you are the perfect adopter for Jolene please tell us why in the comments section of our Adoption Application, and contact Harriet at harrietluvskitties@yahoo.com If you are unable to reach Harriet please email us at info@purebredsplus.org. NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone's best interests!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Jolene, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
