My story

You haven’t truly lived until you’ve seen a 16-pound Chorgi (that’s a delightfully chaotic mix of Chihuahua and Corgi) vanquish a giant stuffed caterpillar like a steely-eyed gladiator, but cuter, and closer to the ground. There was growling. There was flailing. And when the caterpillar finally gave up the ghost, Taco trotted over in slow-motion glory, a tangle of fluff dangling from his jaws -- his prize, his proof, his “I did this for us” moment.Taco is four and a half years old, male, and magnificently shaped like a biscuit with legs. He was recently surrendered by an owner facing eviction -- which is heartbreaking, because this little guy is house trained, knows his commands, and gives affection with the enthusiasm of someone who just realized you might be their favorite person on the planet. One high-pitched squeak, and suddenly you’re looking down at a dog who is 100% certain this scene is about him. With a chonky body, an absurdly small head, and a heart big enough to hold all your hopes, dreams, and at least one emergency backup squeaky toy, Taco is the oddly shaped, outrageously lovable companion you didn’t know you needed.He’s soft. He’s affectionate. He’s perfectly lap-sized. He’s also determined, a little ridiculous, and absolutely convinced that greatness is his destiny. Taco plays with purpose, loves with intensity, and lives like every room deserves a dramatic entrance. Don’t be fooled by his plush-toy appearance -- this dog has a motor. He loves to explore, play, and sneak-attack anything that rustles. He doesn’t need a lot of space, but he does need your energy, your attention, and ideally, a few more caterpillars to conquer.Come meet Taco at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, weekends and holidays included. He’ll be waiting.
