My story

If you're searching for the most devoted and loving best friend ever....Albert is the pup you want to have around! Albert, at between 1 and 2 years old and 10 lbs is just naturally a lover, and when he looks at you with those dark, expressive eyes and sweet smile, your heart just has to melt. Albert is a beautiful and sweet as can be Chihuahua / Dachshund (Chiweenie) mix with all the traits that make these super- smart and personality-plus dogs very popular and beloved breed mixes. Albert's story is a tragic one. He and another dog were abandoned on a tiny balcony in the burning sun and searing 100+ degree Houston heat. They were left with no water or food to just slowly die. When they were nearing their end, a concerned neighbor heard their heartbreaking cries and contacted authorities. When police arrived they found the dogs still alive but desperately in need of help. Albert and his doggie partner were brought to the shelter where after a few days, their friendly temperaments emerged. Shelter personnel fell in love with these two..amazed that after all their pain and torment their sweet and engaging natures began to shine through. Albert, after a short time is a cuddler and snuggler all the way! He loves to to cuddle close on the couch for TV watching or just hanging out with his favorite people is just about perfect for this sweet best friend. An occasional kiss from Albert, once comfortable in his new home, is inevitable. He's a sensitive and very kind dog who derives so much joy from his time spent with his favorite people. Albert is a young, playful and silly guy who, after a bit to time to get settled in, will love his family with all his heart. He would enjoy another gentle dog to play with although it's not necessary if his family is involved and present. Albert's rescuer had the following to brag about this sweet guy: Albert is an extremely affectionate and loving dog! We would love to see him in a home with a family (older kids preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet pup. We'd hate to see Albert left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home. He's too sensitive for that type of arrangement. Albert will thrive on spending the days near his people..getting loved up, periodically throughout the day. Farfel's Rescue would like to see Albert in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A virtual or in-person positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important to the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt Albert out to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Albert will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and great nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are great lifelong protocols for coat care and general health) to keep his coat cottony-soft and shining with excellent health. Albert has been fully vetted and vaccinated to support Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. He was also neutered to support our work toward a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. It was found during Albert's vetting for his interstate health certificate that he is low heart worm positive. Farfel's has treated hundreds of heartworm dogs over the years. We're very happy to say that after treatment, every dog became HW negative and went on to live long, wonderful lives. Farfel's will cover all veterinarian costs for Albert's treatment. Albert will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 7/25/2025. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Albert please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Albert, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
