Cesar, one of the dogs we took in from the homeless veteran who was living in his car with us, got some disappointing unexpected medical news- he’s in kidney failure 😢. This sweet old Pomeranian is still eating well, sleeping very well. Too well. Like he is already dead ☠️ , being blind and deaf he can be tough to wake up and he really becomes one with the bed. He even found a bed the exact same color as him so he really camouflages and you have to make sure you don’t accidentally throw him in with the laundry. He has non-functional eyes that may have been congenital and is well adjusted and unphased by being differently abled. He’s pretty much unphased by anything. He does love to cuddle and melts right in when you hold him (if you can tolerate his stinky breath), enjoys the company and sharing the beds with other little furry sleeping companions, and is hoping to find a hospice home to live out what quality time he has left. He’s getting daily subq fluids to support his kidneys which he is very good for and will hopefully manage his condition for a while, and we are trying to get him to eat a low protein kidney diet although he really wakes up and comes alive for chicken 🍗 Vet tech and medical professional friends, please reach out if you are comfortable giving fluids and can give this sweet special soul a permanent place to be loved and spoiled. We have seen dogs with worse kidney values than him turn around and come back to life for months, even years and we are not ready to give up on sweet Cesar as long as he’s eating and comfortable! Email njwoof@cs.com to meet him in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cesar-HOSPICE, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
