My story

Meet Herstal, the last littermate to join Brussels, Durbuy (also known as Wrigley), Leuven (also known as Louie), and Waterloo (also known as Looie), in our care.  He was super sweet during his bath and amiable to his paw manicure upon arrival in his ShepHeroes foster home. Snuggly, attentive to his human, and very treat-motivated are our first observations. A little shy at first, he took refuge in his foster's legs, taking his time to assess things before blossoming into wandering the yard and the house, and ultimately playing with the resident dogs.  Herstal loves toys, water, and using his sniffer. We can't wait to share more about this agile boy with you.  Herstal has spent the last week at Fosters & Paws Central, hobnobbing with many smaller-breed dogs in their rescue. Before that, he was fostered with Brussels for the first month after the litter was weaned from their mother. To understand each pup's personality, we typically split littermates between 3 and 4 months of age to separate them into different foster homes.  Herstal, just like Brussels, has been well-socialized, enjoying car and stroller rides to kids' sports practices and games, interacting with many children and adults, and visiting coffee shops and other stores. Herstal is crate-trained and typically requires a quick potty break in the middle of the night.  Being food-motivated makes him easy to train. He excels at sitting, and we'll refresh his down and stay. He enjoys a game of "search and eat" with his kibble and can run or walk on a leash. We are deeply appreciative of his prior foster family, who showered him with love and filled his days with snuggles and playtime with kids, along with the structure he needed. While sharing his foster home with Brussels, Herstal was the energetic energizer bunny of the pairing. We're excited to see his temperament stand on its own.  Born to a lovely Malinois mother who has already been adopted, we suspect this litter is a mix of Malinois and German Shepherd. Foster & Paws is a rescue organization focusing on pregnant dogs and mama dogs with litters in shelters. Since they are not breed-specific, we have partnered with them to find the best adopters—those knowledgeable about Malinois and German Shepherd breeds—for these affectionate puppies. Herstal will thrive in a forever home that continues to provide environmental exposure, building on the excellent foundation he is receiving in his foster home. Ongoing training and structure are essential for shepherd puppies to grow into well-adjusted adult dogs. Have you checked out our YouTube channel? We would greatly appreciate your support by subscribing, liking, and commenting on the videos we share of our adoptable shepherds in action. You can also follow us on Instagram,  Facebook, and our newest Threads account, where we post plenty of news and updates about our shepherds. As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters. There are many shepherds in our local shelters who require our help for a fresh start. Would you be willing to open your home and share part of your life to help these dogs find new families? You provide the love, and we will provide everything else! Saying "yes" today truly saves a life. Complete this https://www.shepheroes.org/foster-form, and we will be in touch as soon as possible. We appreciate your consideration. ##2467386##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Herstal, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
