Bodhi was found in a garden in Philadelphia, curled up near a backyard gate with another dog, Nandi. With no known owner and no microchip, she was brought to the shelter by a kind community member on 7/21. From the beginning, Bodhi has shown signs of being a gentle and tenderhearted dog who’s still learning to navigate new environments. At just five years old, Bodhi is a petite pit mix with a bashful but affectionate personality. While she may initially appear timid—cowering in her kennel or hesitating with new people—she quickly shows her desire for closeness and comfort. When given the chance, she softly jumps up to seek affection, nestles her head into a volunteer’s lap, and leans in for quiet reassurance. Though unfamiliar with leash walking, Bodhi remains sweet and cooperative, showing great potential for progress with a little patience and compassion. Bodhi is a soft soul who would likely thrive in a calm, nurturing environment where she can build trust and confidence at her own pace. With time and kindness, she’s sure to blossom into a devoted and loving companion. Behavioral Notes 07/22/2025 Per staff: Another volunteer noticed that Bodhi’s kennel was soiled and asked I take her out so he can clean it. I approached the side bank kennel and chatted with the other volunteer. She urinated in the kennel and retreated to the corner. She was cowering. I offered treats because the other volunteer said she was eating them through the kennel bars, she did not accept. She had her ears back and was whale eyeing me. She was turning away. I slipped the lead over her head and encouraged her out. She slowly stepped out. She stayed low to the ground and immediately run to jump up on me. She was scratching up on my legs like she wanted to crawled up my body. She had a mid tucked tail that was wagging a bit. She would not eat my treats. I tried to use some leash pressure to walk her outside but she put the breaks on. I decided not to force her outside so we stood near the kennel while the volunteer cleaned it. When another volunteer approached, she went right up to them and also jumped up to get some attention. I kneeled over and she laid her head in my lap and cowered between my legs. When the kennel was ready, she jumped right back in. I offered her a treat through the bars which she accepted. Medical Notes 07/21/2025 During the initial intake exam, it was noted that Bodhi is in good overall health, weighing 35.7 pounds with a clean exam and an ideal body condition score. She was noted to be very timid but extremely sweet and just wanted cuddles during her intake exam, with no visible injuries or concerning findings. Her teeth had yellow staining.
