My story

Please say hello to Max, a very special little dog who has truly defied the odds! Max is around 3 years old, weighs about 20 pounds, and is as sweet and lovable as they come. He lived a relatively normal life until earlier this year, when things took a dramatic turn. His owner noticed he was becoming withdrawn, unsteady on his feet, and having episodes of confusion and lethargy. Then the seizures started - frightening, clustered episodes that changed everything. His previous owner made the difficult and selfless decision to relinquish Max to us, knowing they weren’t equipped to manage his care but wanting him to have the best shot at a healthy life. After a thorough evaluation by a specialist and advanced diagnostics, Max was diagnosed with granulomatous meningoencephalitis (GME), which is an inflammatory condition affecting the central nervous system. GME is more commonly seen in small breed dogs and can cause seizures, coordination issues, and other neurological symptoms depending on which areas of the brain are affected.Thankfully, Max’s response to treatment so far has been very promising. He is on a stable medication regimen and doing well clinically. His current care plan includes daily medication to keep inflammation under control, routine bloodwork to monitor his health, and a follow-up MRI in the coming months to track his progress. GME is a chronic condition, but many dogs go on to live happy, stable lives for years with proper management. His medical team is hopeful about his future, and so are we.Beyond all of this, Max is truly a gem. He’s affectionate, gentle, and happiest when curled up in your lap. He loves to snuggle and thrives on being close to his people. He gets along well with other dogs, though he should avoid living with any pets who have contagious skin infections or other illnesses, since his immune system needs a little extra protection.Max has been through more than most dogs his age, and yet his heart remains open and full of love. All he wants now is a home where he’ll be cherished and cared for, a place where he can feel safe and adored. If you’re looking for a deeply special companion and are ready to give Max the support he needs, he’ll give you endless love in return. If you're interested in learning more about this incredible boy, please inquire today. Max is ready for his second chance!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Max *special needs*, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
