My story

Roxxy came to ACCT Philly on August 1st, 2025, when her family, facing homelessness, could no longer care for her. Described as fully housebroken, and crate trained, Roxxy has known nothing but life inside a home since puppyhood. She was surrendered after two years with her family, through no fault of her own. This two-year-old brindle Cane Corso is a big, affectionate girl with a heart to match her size. In the shelter, she’s shown herself to be social, sweet, and eager to connect. Roxxy knows how to sit and takes treats gently, even nudging the treat pouch for more. Volunteers and staff have noted her loose, wiggly body language, her love of butt scratches, and her gentle efforts to climb into laps for affection. She’s also made fast friends with other pups in playgroup, and while her leash manners could use a little work, her friendly attitude makes walks enjoyable. I took her out to the big yard and she walked great on leash. When I dropped her leash in the yard, she sniffed a bit before running over to me on the bench. She tried to climb into my lap to give kisses and she loves head and butt scratches! She loves treats and was interested in chasing around a soft ball toy.” Per staff 8/4: “Kennel presentation: At the front standing quietly, ears to the side, soft eyes low tail wagging loosely. Easy to leash and took a treat gently. Leash skills: Loose leash, pottied right away outside. Tail high, loose body. Sociability: Very social to the handler, solicits touching with soft and loose body language. Tail middle wagging fast, ears back. Knows sit, takes treats gently. Nudges treat pouch and hands for more. Touched all Over, unfazed. Play: Chased a ball then stopped once it stopped rolling Dog interaction: None Return to kennel: Easy Color level: gold” Per owner: “Lived with adults, children and pets. Fully housebroken, high energy, pulls on leash. Great with children, good with cats, weird with dogs.” When asked how Roxxy reacts to strangers, the owner wrote, “somewhat”. Medical Notes: Per an exam on 8/1: -yeasty, crusty and inflamed AD, waxy AS -thin coat , live fleas , possible flea dermatitis , Skin hydrated, scabs -bright, alert, responsive.
