My story

(8/10/25 DDO)My wife and I took Climber out for a Dog Day Out and a sleepover. He is such a sweet boy and seemed to bond with my wife. Despite his name, Climber was not very interested in climbing. He needed to be picked up and put in the car each time. He was quiet and rode well in the car.Climber is very shy, cautious, and a bit skittish. We initially went for a walk. The hot weather shortened the walk but Climber walked close to me and never pulled or lunged. He wanted the close contact. We went back to our home to get cooled off and to get more acquainted with ClimberOnce at our house Climber needed some coaxing to come into the house. Maybe he wasn`t inside much before? We were very patient with him and let him explore. Climber was not motivated with treats or with toys. It took awhile for him to get comfortable enough to sit and even longer to lay down. He was very interested in smelling us, much more than his surroundings. He made sure to know where we were at all times. He did warm up and wagged his tail while getting ear scratches and back rubs.Climber didn`t make any messes in the house and would whine to go outside when he needed to potty. He really enjoyed being outside. In the backyard he came close to zoomies and enjoyed running a bit. He still wanted to be close to us in the yard. Climber also needed to be coaxed inside each time. Climber did not eat any food while with us. We gave him kibbles, left them out all evening, and the next morning. He sniffed the food multiple times but was never enticed to eat.Climber slept on the floor in our bedroom and was generally quiet. He would whine softly at times but would smell one of our hands to ensure we were close and then return to sleep. Climber was not the least bit interested in the crate. Since treats were not tempting, there was no getting him into the crate without picking him up; which we didn`t do.We took him on several walks and he was always well-behaved. He was welcoming to all and especially interested in other dogs he saw. He did well on a patio and relaxed while we snacked. We think Climber really misses his brother and would probably do well with another pup. He would likely get along well with children and cats too. Climber needs a patient hand and quiet environment; especially to start. He would benefit from all the standard training to learn sit, stay, lay, and crate training. He is very affectionate a
