Meet Mudslide: the dog who’s totally chill, loves to be near you, but doesn’t feel the need to stick to you like a sweaty gym towel. This laid-back pup knows how to keep it cool, hanging out close by without demanding constant attention. He’s got that perfect balance—close enough to let you know he’s around, but far enough to let you breathe. If you're looking for a companion who’s more ‘sidekick’ than ‘velcro dog,’ Mudslide’s your guy. Mudslide and his 13 siblings were rescued after someone got in way over their head with dogs. Thanks to some amazing help from the local shelter, we were able to bring these little fluffballs into our fluffy butt family. At 4-5 months old, Mudslide is slowly learning to trust again. No more worrying about where his next meal is coming from or what the next day will hold. Now, he’s all about being a puppy—calm, cool, and just a little bit reserved. He loves to be near you, but don't worry, he's not the clingy type. He knows how to respect your personal space while still being the loving, loyal buddy you didn’t know you needed. Mudslide is the classic puppy who just wants to be everyone’s friend—no drama, no boundaries crossed. He’s the type to keep his distance from the grumpy dogs and offers puppy kisses to those who won’t get upset with him for it. You won’t catch him trying to invade anyone’s personal space, unless, of course, you’re one of the more tolerant dogs who enjoys a little unsolicited affection. Tiny humans? Mudslide was introduced to a group of four little ones, ages 6-10, and while he wasn’t jumping for joy at the thought of new best friends, he did find out that getting pets from tiny humans isn’t the worst thing ever. He didn’t run for the hills, and he didn’t exactly start a puppy parade, but he let them shower him with love from a respectful distance. Now, cats? Mudslide hasn’t met one yet, but he did cross paths with a 95 lb tortoise. Did he challenge it to a race? Absolutely not. He treated the slow-moving guy with the caution and respect it deserved. So, if cats have the same chill vibe, I’m sure they’ll get along just fine. When it comes to new people, Mudslide is cautious but not standoffish, but if you make any fast movements, you’ll quickly learn he’s already mapped out his escape route. He’s the type who will take his time, check you out, and decide if you’re worth his time or if he should make a swift exit. Mudslide is the epitome of "I’ll join you in whatever you’re doing, but I’ll do it at my own pace." His energy level is a solid 5 out of 10—think bear cub meets koala. In terms of temperament, Mudslide is your laid-back, zen pup. He’ll saunter over to see what you’re up to, but he’s not going to be that dog who needs to be on top of you 24/7. He’ll hang out near you, giving you the option to pet him, but he's perfectly fine with just chilling in the background, watching like the fuzzy philosopher he is. Mudslide’s absolute favorite activities include eating (obviously), followed closely by playing with toys. He’s not the obsessive fetch dog, though. Instead, he’ll carry his toys around like prized possessions, occasionally giving them a chew, but mostly just admiring them in his own quiet way. Water? Yeah, if it involves splashing around like a doggy otter, Mudslide's not your guy. As for where he’ll thrive? Mudslide's pretty adaptable. Whether you’ve got a fenced yard or a cozy apartment, he’ll adjust like a pro. He’s just here for a peaceful existence with plenty of toys and the occasional snack—what more could you ask for? Thinking of adopting Mudslide? Fantastic. Just know you’re signing up for the full deluxe puppy starter pack. First up: socialization. Mudslide didn’t exactly come from the Ritz-Carlton of puppyhood, so he’s still figuring out that people can be nice, dogs can be fun, and the world isn’t just one big scary vacuum cleaner. You’ll need to show him that new experiences don’t have to be terrifying. Training? Oh yes, that too. Mudslide is not some mystical, pre-programmed prodigy who popped out knowing “sit,” “stay,” and “don’t steal the remote.” You’ll be the proud owner of a blank (adorable) slate. But don’t worry—he’s smart, he’s sweet, and with consistency (and maybe a sense of humor), he’ll figure it out. Potty training? We’re working on it. He's starting to connect the dots, but we’re not ready to hang a gold medal just yet. And finally, let’s talk puppy-proofing. Mudslide isn’t a malicious chewer or a wild hooligan, but he is a puppy. That means he’s going to explore with his mouth, his paws, and his nose. If it fits in his mouth, it’s fair game. If it crinkles, squeaks, or smells vaguely like food? Even better. So yes, you’ll need to put away your shoes, hide your cords, and accept that at some point, a sock will disappear forever. Ready to give this sweet, soulful little potato the forever home he deserves? Great! All you have to do is fill out the adoption app at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app —because apparently we’re not allowed to just hand over dogs to people who say they’re cool. Once that’s done, we’ll send it over to his foster family, who will review it to make sure you are the pyrfect match. Oh, and one more thing: you’ll need to pick him up in Hutchinson, Kansas. We know—exotic. Just tell your friends it’s a destination rescue. The road trip is part of the bonding experience.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mudslide, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
