Forced to brave the not-so-great outdoors at just 4 months old, this kitten found herself in a sticky situation. A combative resident in a rural North Carolina community called PETA, threatening to shoot the free-roaming cats belonging to his neighbor, who was out of town. Nearly causing a traffic jam, fieldworkers rushed to the scene, securing all six felines before any harm could come to them. Marmalade—as the group’s tortoiseshell has since been named—and her kitty crew were quickly chauffeured to a nearby safe harbor: PETA’s shelter. There, the cat clique proved to be remarkably social. Marmalade’s good fortune didn’t stop there: Her white knight—er, dame, actually—convinced the cats’ owner to allow three of the cats to live indoors with her and allow PETA to help find other safe, loving homes for the remaining gals. All it took was one look into the newly spayed, tiny tortie’s caramel eyes for two of PETA’s kitten foster guardians to whisk Marmalade to their home for much-needed TLC. Once indoors—safely away from the dangers of cars, other animals, cruel humans, extreme weather, and disease—and surrounded by her new seasoned foster siblings, this sweet girl quickly proved she’ll live up to her sweet name. According to her foster guardians, Marmalade sometimes plays hard to get at first but warms up quickly with a few kitten treats and a flick of a cat wand! She enjoys the company of other cats, and she adores humans who adore her—she spends most days patiently demanding chin scratches from her foster guardians. Marmalade is roughly 16 weeks old. She has been spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. As she’s grown, her foster guardians have come to notice that her trust and playfulness have grown, too. She is still learning a lot from her feline foster siblings, so bonus points to applicants who already have a social cat who can teach Marmalade how to “cat”! Are You Marmalade’s Jam?
