My story

Name: Basset Age: DOB: 12/26/24 Gender: male Breed: Beagle / Hound Mix Weight: 38 lbs Dog friendly: yes Cat friendly: no cats please Child friendly: yes, older school-aged children please House trained: yes does great on a schedule  Crate trained: yes Energy level: moderate/ active Temperament:  outgoing, intelligent, playful, energetic Requirement: Not suited for rental living Adoption Fee: $375+tax   To adopt, go to: http://www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html   From the Foster Family: Meet Basset, a goofy, sweet, and spirited one-year-old Beagle mix who recently made his way up from Alabama after being found as a stray. Basset is all legs, ears, and energy. He’s got a big personality, a bigger heart, and an even bigger appetite (seriously — don’t leave snacks unattended!). He’s also a bit of a chewer, so you’ll want to have tough toys and keep your shoes out of reach. He’s still very much a big puppy and needs consistent guidance to learn what’s his and what’s not. He’s doing well with potty training on a schedule and is friendly with other dogs. He doesn’t like to share his food with other dogs, although he can easily make friends, we’d recommend he be a solo dog unless you understand he’ll need separate meal times. Because Basset is still learning how to “dog,” he’s mouthy during play, he is just overexcited and unsure how to show it. He’s looking for an adopter who understands that and is ready to guide him with patience, structure, and positive reinforcement. For this reason, we recommend a home with older children only. He’d make a great hiking buddy or running partner! He’s vocal (classic hound!) and will definitely announce his opinions, so no shared walls, please. With love, training, and a bit of structure, Basset is going to make someone an incredible companion. He’s loving and sweet under the chaos and with the right match, he’s going to blossom. Think of him as a charming diamond in the rough — a little wild, but totally worth it.   About Me: OH HEY THERE, YOU LOOK LIKE FUN! I’m Basset — part Beagle, coonhound, part snack vacuum, part chaos gremlin, ALL heart. I just came up from Alabama where I was doing the whole “free-range lifestyle” thing. No leash. No rules. No idea what I was doing. Now I’ve got a roof over my head, regular meals (AMAZING),  friends, and floors that aren’t made of dirt. I’m thriving… kinda. Still learning how to “dog” the right way. Here’s the thing: I’m a BIG puppy in every way. I get the zoomies. I chew stuff (seriously, if it’s on the floor, it’s fair game). I talk a lot and I use my mouth to communicate more than I should, like “I love you” (and also “I’m excited!” and “What’s happening?!”). Not everyone gets my vibe, so I should probably live with older kids only. It’s best to not have smaller humans around to accidentally be on the receiving end of my energy while I’m learning the ropes of this indoor dog life! I’m potty trained on a schedule, good with other pups (though I don’t share snacks — don’t even ask), and high-energy. I need someone who can keep up with me and teach me right from wrong and the polite ways of society. I promise I’ll try! I just need some help understanding what not to eat and when not to use my mouth as if everything is a squeaky toy. If you’re the type who likes adventure, running, or solving puzzles (and by puzzles, I mean keeping me out of your snack cabinet), I might be your perfect partner. I’ve got so much love and goofiness to give — I just need the right human who sees my big ol’ hound heart and is able to put in the work with me. So… whaddaya say? You. Me. Life together. I’m ready if you are.  August 8, 2025, 10:22 pm
