Mable ACCT-A-228003 is a sweet, gentle soul who was found roaming as a stray on August 6th and brought to the shelter by a kind Good Samaritan. She had clearly been through a lot—very recently postpartum and still engorged from being without her pups—but through it all, she has remained patient, tender, and kind. Quiet and a bit shy at first, Mable warms up with a slow, gentle approach. Once she knows she’s safe, her curiosity shines, and she’ll sit ever so patiently for a treat. There’s a softness to her that will melt your heart—she truly is such a baby. Mable is ready for someone to show her the same love and care she so freely offers. With a little time and tenderness, she will be the most loyal and loving companion. She absolutely loves hot dogs and instantly warms up knowing hot dogs are around On 8/8 volunteer behavior evaluation: Kennel Presentation: Mable is in a crate. When I went to her crate, she was sitting in the back licking herself. I approached the door and she slowly stood up and walked over. She had a low, slow tail wag. She sat down at the front of the kennel and looked up at me with soft eyes. She sat while I opened the gate. I put the leash in the crate and she pushed towards it. I went to put the leash around her head and she moved forward into the leash, it went around her body. I was able to reach in and adjust the leash to be around her neck. Mable stepped out of the kennel and walked outside. Leash Skills: Mable walks mostly on a loose leash. She would pull towards other dogs. She walked mostly with a still, mid to low level tail. Sociability: Mable seemed to start off shy but would warm up. Mable did not solicit any attention. While on a walk outside, she continued sniffing when called over for attention. In the volunteer office, she went over to volunteers. She seemed very food motivated. She can be snatchy at times and will jump up to get food. She would search around the room looking for treats. Mable knows it. She allows pets all over. She continued to be a bit stiff with a non moving tail when petting. Over time in the office, she started to have more relaxed ears and mid to high level tail wags. Play: No interest. Dog Interaction: On leash, Mable pulled towards other dogs. She had a fence meet l. She sniffed the other dog briefly. Her tail was down and not moving. She had her ears back. Both Mable and the other dog lost interest quickly. We attempted leashed meet. Mable slowly approached for a sniff from behind but both quickly lost interest. Return to Kennel: When I arrived at the crate and opened the door, she turned to the other direction. I threw a treat in and she followed. Color Level: experienced gold Recommendations and considerations: Give time to warm up. Offer treats with an open hand. On 8/6 finder noted: "Friendly, shy, quiet, scared.” Medical Notes: On 8/14 Doctor noted: “Bright, alert, responsive (0/5 FAS - sweet and gentle). Grade 2/6 bilateral heart murmur, strong synchronous femoral pulses. Dry dull hair coat with healing scabs on dorsum. Open sore on muzzle and right hip. Assessment: Thin Intact female - in heat Healing skin - flea allergy dermatitis vs demodex vs open New sores from being thin and pressure sores and rubbing nose on kennel (likely)” On 8/10 staff noted: “This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". She has been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection. They will need a veterinarian to examine them before they receive surgery, if they are not already altered. Plan Start Doxycycline 100mg at 10mg/kg SID Po x 14 days.” On 8/7 staff noted: “Bright, alert, responsive and friendly but doesn't like her mammaries touched too much. Eyes are clear, ears are a little waxy and nose has some clear discharge. Some yellow staining and worn down teeth, gums pink and moist. Coat & Skin are clean but has hair thinning all over back and hind legs. Intact female, very enlarged mammaries, some blood from vuvla likely due to being recently post partum.” On 8/6 staff noted: "Quiet, alert, responsive. She is a little nervous but tolerant of all handling. Appears to be recently postpartum. Both ears are dirty but no obvious infection. Mildly tachycardic, likely from fear. Heart murmur noted but no arrythmia, PQ wnl, synchronous. Intact female with very full mammary glands, warm to the touch. No evidence of mastitis, mild appears healthy. Thinning of fur along most of back and tail but no obvious ectoparasites or skin dz.” - ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
