My story

To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Marjorie is a shy but sweet cat  who needs to go to a home where there is a cat-friendly cat that can help her to continue to get more confident. She’s estimated to be 2 years old and is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Marjorie is incredibly sweet and gentle, but very shy and fearful. She’s still learning to feel safe and tends to be quiet, observant, and hesitant to engage. Once settled, she’s the kind of cat who will likely form a deep bond — but it will take time, patience, and a calm environment.   Does the cat enjoy being pet? Sometimes. Initially, she wants to run away, but quickly realizes that she's enjoying the pets and will sit and allow it for a while.    If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She likes being petted on her head and ears, and occasionally under her neck.    Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? I’d say the rest of her body, below her head.   Does the cat come on your lap? No.   Does the cat like to be held? No — she gets very tense and fearful when picked up.   Does the cat sleep in your bed? No.   Does the cat seek your attention? Not yet — she’s still building trust. She doesn't approach us, but she is starting to tolerate gentle interaction.   Does the cat like to play? Not currently.   What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She hasn’t shown interest in toys.   How vocal is the cat? Not vocal at all.    What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She’s honestly very silent.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Not that I’ve seen so far, but she also hasn’t scratched any furniture.    Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes.   If no, please explain. N/A   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She grazes on dry food, eating about 1cup per day, I’d estimate. I give her wet food most days, as well.    Is the cat picky about food? Not at all. She's adapted to different foods and eats consistently.    What is the cat's favorite treat? Churu!!   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Fearful — she’s very cautious around new people and prefers to stay hidden or still until she feels safe.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She has a quiet little presence — sometimes you’ll hear her bell jingling in the middle of the night as she explores the house. She finds her spots and at times, will stay frozen like a little statue — which has seemed both sad and endearing.    In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Marjorie is incredibly tender and has the kind of quiet soul that you just want to protect. She deserves a calm, loving home where she can finally exhale and let her guard down. She’s had a very difficult start to life — originally from an outdoor colony in Western MA, she spent over six months alone in a crate after being trapped, with little to no human contact or affection during that time. However, with time and patience, she’ll likely become a loyal, gentle companion — and whoever earns her trust will be very lucky.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? She is extremely fearful and slow to warm up. The best approach has been to give her consistent, gentle interaction, while allowing her plenty of space and freedom to explore at her own pace. She does better out of the crate, with quiet companionship and low expectations.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  August 22, 2025, 12:43 pm
