Kora and Red are approximately 5-month-old Mountain Cur mix sisters who have already shown incredible resilience in their short lives. Their story began when their litter was abandoned out in the country to fend for themselves. Thankfully, a kindhearted Samaritan stepped in to make sure the puppies were safe and cared for. While some of their siblings found homes, Kora and Red are still waiting for their chance at forever. Both girls are sweet-natured, but because they didn’t grow up with the guidance most puppies receive, they’ve missed out on important early socialization. They haven’t had much exposure to people, new environments, or the basics of puppy life. As a result, the shelter environment feels very overwhelming to them, and they are still learning to trust that the world can be a safe and happy place. ✨ Red is the quieter, more reserved sister. She tends to hang back, waiting for reassurance before she feels comfortable enough to engage. She looks to Kora for guidance and draws confidence from the presence of someone she trusts. With patience and kindness, Red will bloom in her own time, and when she does, the bond she forms will be incredibly special. ✨ Kora is the more confident of the pair. While still shy, she has a spark of curiosity that makes her willing to take those first cautious steps forward. She’ll peek out from her safe spot, sniff the air, and slowly investigate something new. With gentle encouragement, her bravery shines through, and you can see how eager she is to connect. Neither girl has had the chance to learn the basics—like leash walking, house manners, or how wonderful consistent human interaction can be. What they need most are patient, understanding adopters who can give them the time and love they deserve. Their future families should be prepared to go at their pace, celebrate small victories, and provide a calm, steady environment where they can grow in confidence. Kora and Red may be shy right now, but with dedication and love, we know they’ll blossom into loyal, affectionate companions. They’ve already overcome so much—and all they need now is someone willing to believe in them and help them discover the happy, carefree puppyhood they missed out on.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Red, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
