Meet Lovie! Male, approximately 1.5 years old UTD on all vaccines; neutered Loves everyone but will knock over little kids without meaning to hurt them, he’s just so excited to see you!! He has no accidents in his stall (Lovie is at a small home-based dog boarding facility while we search for the best home for him), but we believe he has never lived in a real home. So potty training may be spotty. But he wants to please!!! Lovie hasn’t had the best start to life. He was hit by a car, suffered a broken right front leg and was left with no medical care. He did his best to heal his leg himself, and he did a good job!! But he will always have a limp b/c it didn’t heal perfectly. But at least he can still use his leg a little bit. We found him limping on the side of a very busy road and took him home to get the medical care he needs. Two different vets have told us his injury was probably 3 to 4 months old when he was found, so it already started to heal and now surgery is not a good option. His leg is still healing, but it’s not completely straight. He does put weight on it. Meaning, he doesn’t seem to have nerve damage, and his leg does provide him stability. They do not recommend amputation for this reason because he can still get some benefit from his leg. Lovie WANTS to be with people, he loves everyone. But he doesn’t know how to interact with people, he gets so excited and wants to be in your lap, so he jumps up to get closer to you without realizing he’s not a lap dog!! We are working on getting him some training to be a bit more polite. Lovie doesn’t know how to play yet. He probably had no one in his life to show him how. Add that to the fact that he really can’t run much with his leg still healing so he now gets short daily walks to strengthen his leg and work on sit, down and walk. Lovie is good with most other dogs. He was found with another bully breed dog with a chain embedded in his neck and was nervous with him. We think they may have been competing for resources and developed some negative energy between them. He does not exhibit that same energy with our dogs. Still careful introduction is needed while his leg continues to heal. A lower energy doggie sibling would be best to show Lovie how to live his best doggie life. Lovie is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lovie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
