My story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cruz was saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August. We post our available dogs in states across the East Coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes of finding perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs — families must come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and, hopefully, take home their new best friend. Health & Background ✅ Neutered ✅ Rabies and core vaccines up to date ✅ On monthly flea/tick preventatives ✅ Microchipped ⚖️ Weight: 60-70 pounds Estimated DoB: 13 February 2025 Give a Dog a Home Rescue suffered a devastating fire on 20 January 2026 losing the house and operations center of the rescue. Fortunately the kennel building was not affected by the fire, however, access to water and septic was lost making the kennels not useable. Many people stepped up to foster and a boarding and day care kennels in Bangor also reached out to offer to take some dogs and they took Cruz and his girl friends Clara Belle and Ryder Girl. In the middle of March they were picked up and brought to hang out with the surviving senior dogs and on 30th March CRUZ was lucky enough for our friends at More than Just Engraving in Bangor Mall, to pick him and take him for a few days to give him some adventures.  This is the update on day one of his adventures with Jannet and her two and four legged family:    Today Cruz will be hanging out at the store for a bit. So if you see a Frisbee flying, a tunnel with a dog (or human) going through or what appears to be a big stuffed dog laying still on the floor, come on in and say hi to Cruz (an adoptable dog through Give a Dog a Home Rescue ) He is sweet, goofy, smart and loves everyone!      Yesterday he had quite an adventure. After leaving his new friends behind at our home we stopped at Dunkin for some human breakfast. He did not even beg for any from L while riding in the back with her.      We popped into the store for a little bit where we tried some dog training toys and said hi to some mall walkers. Went to the 2 pet stores where we browsed. Cruz sniffed at products but never attempted to snag any. Headed to City Forest for a walk.      He does so well on leash. Whenever another dog passed of course he wanted to say hi but we all easily controlled our pups and kept moving forward. After the walk we headed back home (Cruz fought sleep all the way home) to get the rest of the gang to go back to town for basketball practice and a board meeting.   Cruz hung out in the store during the meeting, crashed hard at the closed gate and gave passerbys something to giggle about.    Once back at home (an unfamiliar home prior to the night before when he came) he settled in, played with Sir Double , then crashed for the entire night.      Cruz is so easy going, smart, listens well, easily redirected, loves snuggles and I think he has barked once in the almost 2 days he has been hanging with us.    He is looking for his forever home and forever person. Please share my very long post CRUZ is a sweet love bug, he has so much affection, he loves to wrestle and chase with his friends and then snuggle up or hang out when they need to recharge their batteries.    He loves everyone he meets and would be very responsive to training. With an active family he would thrive.  What Cruz Needs ‍♀️ An active family that can meet his physical and mental exercise needs Mental stimulation and enrichment — structure, toys, puzzles, and engaging activities ️ High-quality food and treats to keep him healthy and energized Regular veterinary wellness checks for preventive care and long-term health ❤️ Time to adjust and feel safe — patience to decompress and build trust   Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Sebec, Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Cruz. ⏱️ Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Cruz?
