My story

Meet Bear !! **Special needs guy, partially blind** You really could not ask for a nicer more well behaved boy. He’s just delightful and calm. He came to us with Louis (posted separately) but they do not need to go together. They are not bonded and have different needs and energy levels. If someone wanted both then great they do well together but it’s not necessary to keep them as a pair. Bear is a 9 year old Shih Tzu. He weights 22 pounds and is full grown. He is already neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. He is heartworm negative. This sweet boy has a few special needs. He has some eye issues and is mostly blind. He does however see well enough to navigate new places very well. He can do stairs etc without help he just takes his time. He also has allergies and gets a cytopoint injection as needed to help with that. His new family will need to be willing to provide that for him as well as staying established with an ophthalmologist to get eye drops and eye care for him. We know he has more needs than some but he is absolutely worth it. He’s so sweet, well behaved and easy to have around. Bear just loves everyone. Happy to be anyone’s best friend. He is all about living his best life on someone’s lap. He adores people and wants to be with you all the time. He is such an easy guy to have around. Behaves well and is low maintenance. Despite being mostly blind he is not jumpy or reactive to sudden touching. He lives to be petted and loved on and has no reaction to surprise touched as some dogs with low vision have. He has done very well around dogs of all sizes. He isn’t much for playing but has no problem coexisting around others of various energy levels. He has not been around cats but we suspect he would be fine with them. He is good with children also. Any kids in the home would need to respect him and not treat him like a toy. Bear is doing well with all house manners. He is crate trained but does not need one. He is very well behaved when left out. He just hangs out in his dog bed. He does good on the leash but is also happy to be carried around. He is a slow walker on the leash due to his vision. He has done great on all the car rides he has been on. He would really like a home where he can sleep in the bed with you. He loves to cuddle up with his people. He has done very well with his potty training. He has had no accidents when let out frequently. He has had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. He loves bones. He was great for the vet and really is an easy, go with the flow kinda guy. He has a lower energy level and is happy to relax with you all day. He enjoys being outside and sniffing all around. Overall Bear is a great little dog. He is a really cuddly, lower energy lap dog. He would be great for a family or a senior that wants a relaxed dog. He will make someone a wonderful companion! ♦️He will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt him.♦️ Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for more photos and faster response message our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application. ‼️

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bear, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
