My story

Tater is an adorable, one-eyed, 7-year-old Pug weighing about 30 lbs, though he is in need of shedding a few of those. Now that Tater is back with our rescue, he is on a diet!! We don’t know the story of how he lost his eye, but it happened long ago—and he doesn’t let it slow him down one bit! Tater first came to us in 2021 after being found as a stray in Roswell, NM. By the time we rescued him, his eye was already removed and fully healed, and he was ready for a fresh start. He was quickly adopted and deeply loved by his owner. Sadly, due to illness and hospitalization, his owner can no longer care for him. Now, in 2025, Tater has returned to us through no fault of his own. He’s safe and happy in a foster home, and once again looking for the forever family he so deserves. Tater loves other dogs, and loves all people that he meets. (We haven't observed him around kids under 10, though). Tater is a lap dog, and a cuddler. He would love someone he can sleep in bed with. Tater wants to chase cats, so unfortunately a home with a cat will not work. Tater is potty trained, as well! Farfel's Rescue would like to see Tater in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A positive reinforcement/force free training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a little guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Farfel's feels so strongly about a training opportunity for every dog that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't choose to make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free virtual or in-person trainers in your area. Tater has been fully vetted, is up to date on his vaccines and neutered. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.
