My story

One of our generous supporters has sponsored Willie Nelson's adoption fee. This means his new family can focus on his needs and care-no adoption fee required. Meet our sweet older guy-Willie Nelson! He came to us from another shelter. He is such an affectionate boy. Loves all people! He would love nothing more to find a home where he can lay around all day and be around his people. He loves pets, loves attention. He will always great you with his a smiling face and wagging tail nubbin'!   We don’t know for sure what his breed makeup is, but believe he is a Doberman mix. We believe he is about 8.5 years old. He’s about 65 pounds.   We discovered Willie Nelson does have a condition called pancreatitis. He will need to stay on a prescription low fat diet for the rest of his life, and it’s important to monitor what treats he gets to prevent flare ups. Currently his pancreatitis is well managed. He does seem to have some general anxiety-we don't know what he would be like outside of a shelter scenario. We hope that his anxiety would relax, which is why we would  LOVE to find him a foster home so we can see how he does in a loving and caring environment. He is currently on some anxiety medications to help keep him less stressed in our kennel environment.    He has met dogs of other sizes and there has been no problems, but proper introductions with other dogs in the homes is required. He has not yet been cat tested.   Willie Nelson is neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm and tick disease tested and negative for all. He has also had senior bloodwork tests performed with no significant concerns other than pancreatitis.  An approved adoption application is required. The $200 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; senior bloodwork testing, microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; heartworm and tick disease testing; fecal w/ giardia testing, monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention . Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.March 21, 2026, 11:53 am

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Willie Nelson, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
