My story

**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING For Adoption:Carlos Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption traini This adorable little guy is Carlos. His beautiful silver cream fur is soft to touch, and Carlos loves to be caressed and petted. Carlos is a 1.5 year old Pomeranian X weighing in at approximately 16lbs. Just the right size to be a portable cuddle dog as Carlos does not mind at all being picked up and loves nothing more than be able to snuggle up on you or next to you. Carlos, although shy at first, loves people, especially little people. He is generally calm around older children. Carlos is a low shedding dog who needs regular brushing to keep free of mats and will need regular professional grooming appointments to keep tidy. He had been groomed shortly before entering our rescue so is sporting his short cut with a plumed tail…he is quite handsome!! Surprisingly Carlos was found as a stray. This is surprising because Carlos has pretty good house manners and is overall an easy going fellow. He is already housebroken and does not really get into things other than chewing on the occasional plant, sneaking a lick out of your empty ice cream bowl when you’re not looking and sometimes picking up objects left on the floor and moving them to a new location. But he will not beg for food or bother you if you are having a snack while watching TV. He waits politely while he is leased up for a walk or being fitted with an outfit. Want to trim his toenails? Carlos is quite willing to flip on his back and put his feet up for you to trim. No fuss no muss. In fact Carlos is quite the amiable little fellow when he is not in a crate. When Carlos is not in a crate he is a very quiet dog. He may or may not bark when someone comes to the door, but if he does bark, he will stop immediately when the door is opened and he sees who is there. However, Carlos will bark periodically when no one is home. For this reason, Carlos is not suitable for apartment or condo living. A single detached home is needed for him. Carlos doesn’t like being left alone for long periods of time and needs a person or family where someone is home most of the time. He is working on his independent crate time but this is a work in progress and he won’t be suitable for a home where he would need to be alone for multiple hours at a time every day. Carlos is getting much better at being crated at night and will bark briefly or not at all when put into his crate at bedtime. He will start barking in the morning when he feels it is time to get up and he does not think it is rude to get up very early although his foster mom would disagree. This being said, he has made great progress with the crating and nighttime barking and he will sleep through night more often than not. When Carlos first came into foster care, he would not go out in the yard by himself. Now he is quite happy to go outside and nibble on the grass, sniff around or just sit and watch people walking by (except when you first let him out of the crate in the morning or when he been left in the crate during the day when no-one is home, he will want to see you first). He is gaining more and more confidence being on his own every day. Carlos absolutely loves his daily walks and he is very good on the leash. If you stop to talk to someone, he will sit calmly until you are ready to continue with the walk. When walking on the sidewalk, he will walk right beside you. If he is on his long line in the park, he will trot ahead but rarely pulls. He does not have a strong prey drive, so while taking an interest in the squirrels, bunnies and chipmunks, he does not usually give chase. But if he does get a notion, it is usually short lived and he will respond quite readily to his name. Carlos will turn his head and casually sniff at people passing by him. He does not react to kids on bikes or electric scooters zooming by him. Again he just gives a casual turn of his head to see what just passed him. He is not at all phased by loud noises such as screaming kids in the playground or noisy appliances in the house. Carlos is however mildly reactive to dogs, although he can be easily redirected and will continue on his walk without incident. He does not like other dogs rushing at him. He will get excited about this, but he calms down very quickly when sees you have everything under control and in many cases if we are talking with other dog walkers, he will quickly forget about the other dogs and ignore them. He is less reactive to dogs he has met before and even shows some happy interest in seeing them again. With proper slow introductions Carlos would be okay with other calm dogs. Although in a living situation, since he loves attention, he would prefer to be the only dog so he can get all of the attention for himself. Since Carlos does not have a strong prey drive, he might be okay with cats however this has not being tested. Carlos prefers to do his toileting on his walks and so we are working on getting him to relieve himself in the yard when he can’t be walked. He would be fine for a home without a fenced in yard tho as he does prefer to do his business out on walks. Carlos initially barked at little when first riding in the car, but now seems to ride quietly in his crate. He is well behaved when going into dog friendly establishments. He automatically sits if you are at a teller or cashier. On excursions to Canadian tire he jauntily walks down the aisles enjoying all the new smells, especially in the pet section. Carlos seems to enjoy being with older, quiet natured children. He is quite gentle and loves to follow the grandkids around. If they sit on the couch, he will go and sit with them, if they play on the floor, he will be on the floor with them. If the older kids run with him, he quite will quite happily run and leap and play with wild abandon. Carlos can do a kangaroo hop on two feet, and will leap straight up on all fours. He can get overexcited when running and playing in zoom mode and will try and bite the leash or jump on the back of your legs so care should he is not suitable for a home with smaller children when he is engaged in all out play. His rambunctious play is usually short lived though as he is not a high energy dog. Carlos loves to meet children on our walks, he will actively seek them out and although a bit head shy with sudden movements he will wait until you instruct the children how best to pet him. Then he most happily sits calmly to receive his pets. Carlos would be happy in a home with dog educated children 8 years and up that are not overly rambunctious children. Although he has been great will smaller children for short visits, he does like his quiet time napping. He would not like the energy of a home with younger children. Carlos eats well, but will drink water all in one go and then not drink anything for long periods of time. He really likes cheese and his chew stick treats. When Carlos is feeling energetic, he likes to play with his squeaky toys and tug rope. He will pounce and roll around on the carpet. He is usually most energetic in the morning and later in the evening. The rest of the day he loves to snooze on the couch or in a sunny spot on the floor. Snoozing or not, Carlos is up for a walk any time of the day. Carlos also likes to play in the yard, but care must be taken to ensure there are no poisonous plants as he does like to chomp on them. Eager to please, Carlos has been very easy to train and food is not always necessary as a reward. In the short time he has been in foster Carlos has learned how to sit and wait for a release word when you open the door for a walk. He will automatically sit and look at you before he is released to “Go Play” on the long line. He will also sit and “look” at you on command. This has been helpful when unruly dogs in the park come rushing at him. He understands the word “Outside” and will run to the side door to be let out. Right now he comes to a whistle but a word command will be added in case his new people can’t whistle. If Carlos encounters another dog, he understands “Let’s go” means just keeping walking. He is in the process of learning to go into the crate on command. Carlos will be starting more formal training classes in a few days and his new people will be required to also enroll him in level 1 training classes as well as part of the adoption agreement. Carlos has been neutered, is up to date with the shots and all other medical needs, and had some dental work done. He is ready for his new home. Since Carlos loves to be with people he would really enjoy being part of a family group. Overall, Carlos is a low to medium energy dog. He is happy to engage in play or run when you do, but equally happy to have a leisurely walk or curl up with you on the couch. He likes to play with his squeaky toys and tug rope for short intervals. He is sensitive to how you are feeling. He loves the energy older kids bring to any situation, but also loves flipping upside down in the crook of your arm and being stroked and massaged. He especially loves ear and belly rubs. If you are looking for a sweet, lovable, cuddly, eager to please addition to your family, and someone is home more than away during the day Carlos might just be the perfect fit for your family.
