For Adoption: Ohri! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Hello everyone, please allow me the pleasure of introducing our little sweetie, Ohri! Ohri is a female Yorkshire Terrier that is approximately 7 years old and about 12.5lbs in weight. She has the typical Yorkie black/brown/tan fur colourings. Her ears are massive and stand straight up at attention all the time. Sometimes when she is trying to listen well at something they will turn like a satellite dish also. These ears are so unique and was the reason she got her name. Ohri is a little feminine spin on Ohren, which is German for ears. The only history we were given on Ohri is that she was a puppy mill mommy. She is now enjoying retired life and loving it. Ohri took quite a bit of time to get used to our home and the people around her in general. Because she is a mill rescue they are typically shut down and very nervous upon arrival. It takes a lot of patience and calmness to help her get adjusted to her new life. It was a challenge but we didn’t give up and now she is on her way to becoming a very sweet and loving dog. Eventually she picked up on our routines and habits and learned to be comfortable around a man, woman, kids and another dog in the household. Now she is much more open to new people and kids, and loves coming across new dogs to sniff and check out. Ohri is fully vetted and has been microchipped, spayed and routine shots given. At the vets they did find she had a mild arrhythmia (unsteady heart rate) so they used heart-safe drugs for her procedure and her heart rate was stable throughout the procedure and everything went well. This is nothing that needs further investigation at this time but at her yearly checks her vet will just want to note any changes, if any. Her teeth got a good looking at while she was under and are in good shape as well, but it with any small dog a dental would be expected in the senior years as their teeth are prone to dental disease. Anyone familiar with Yorkies will know to expect this and will need to plan for it. Ohri is really enjoying going for walks with our PDR Alumni dog. She is a large breed dog and Ohri has no problem keeping up pace and goes for the same length walks as her. They walk great together. They both usually go for a short morning walk during the week, and 2 walks of around 30 minutes each on the weekends. Ohri doesn’t have high energy needs but will go for as long of a walk as you please. Ohri is crate trained and does great in her crate. She currently is being crated while we are away from the home or if we can’t watch her closely and at night time. She is not a barking type dog. I have only heard her bark once so far. But she is very quiet and peaceful. Except when she knows its walk time! Then she gets really excited to go outside. She hasn’t mastered going into her crate without help yet. But we seem to get pretty close these days when it's meal time. With more solid training, I feel she could master it eventually. We will just pick her up and place her in front of the door to her crate and she will walk in the rest of the way for now. She eats her meals in the crate, morning and evenings. And water is free range to get too while she is out and roaming. We do not consider Ohri to be fully house trained yet. We say this because we have noticed with a shift in routine she will have accidents on occasion. We have a trailer and she has been enjoying going there with us. But the earlier weekends she was there it would cause her to regress a bit. It has improved the more times we have gone though and accidents haven’t happened as much. She has never had an accident in the house or vehicle. It’s always been confined in the crate. This again is typical of mill dogs as they were never exposed to life outside of a barn or kennel prior to rescue, so patience needs to be had with all changes of locations or routines. Ohri seems relaxed by car rides, and will just lay in the middle seat of our pickup truck between us. Very content to just lay and sleep the whole drive. She loves being outside in the yard. At the trailer she would be attached to a tie out and she would be great there while supervised. She loves to people watch and dog watch as they went by. She never barked at anyone and was gentle with anyone who would come to say hello. She loves to cuddle on the couch with a human or on the dog bed with her buddy or alone. She hasn’t really found toys to be entertaining at this time. She just likes to pace around the house and then rest/relax once everyone else has settled down for the night. We think that Ohri would do well in a multitude of home situations. She would make a great buddy for an active senior looking for a companion who doesn’t have mobility issues as Ohri is easy to trip over as. But she would also do great with a young family wth older kids (over 8yrs of age) or a couple to keep her engaged and active. Her crate is small enough to fit in most spaces. She is quiet all day and all night so an apartment would be ok too. But she does love to be outside so that should be noted with an apartment setting. A ground floor apartment with some outdoor space would suit her fine. She wouldn’t love being in a high rise apartment with elevator usage needed and heavy people traffic. This would just be too much change and activity for her. Having come from a very secluded life she is still adjusting to life out in the world so we have to make it as easy for her as possible and give her a home with a setting that she can ease into. A rural area, town or quiet subdivision would work well for her. She won’t fare well in an busy outdoor environment with a lot of cars whizzing by, bikes and skateboards coming at her etc. Having another dog in the household is not a requirement but she may enjoy that if it was a mature and calm dog. She would be fine with a cat in the home as well. Please consider adding this sweet girl to your family. She deserves a loving furever home! #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #rescuedog #adoptdontshop #pounddogs #pdr13years #pounddogrescue13yearsstrong Name: Ohri ID # PDR1416 Age: 7yrs Gender: female Spayed: yes UTD vaccines: yes Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Colours: black and tan Coat length: med House trained: yes Special needs: no OK with kids: older OK with cats: yes Ok with dogs: yes Status: adoptable Microchip: yes Size: small Location: New Hamburg Adoption fee: $700
