My story

Hi! I'm Dorothy. I’m around 7 years old and I’m on the lookout for my forever family! I’m as sweet as can be, but I’m still getting used to being around humans so I’m looking for a family who can be very patient with me. I can be pretty timid in new situations and need some time to feel comfortable. I live with a 4-year old right now which is just fine. I’m not sure about other dogs. I’m cautious when approaching new dogs on walks and I don’t like dogs that have too much energy. I’ve never been around a cat, but I like to chase squirrels on walks, so maybe a home with cats isn’t the best fit. I like to be inside the house with my humans. They have a fenced-in backyard, but I don’t want to be out there for very long without them. I love walks! I’m not the fastest walker as I’m still very cautious, but going on a walk is the highlight of my day! I’m working on being brave during car trips. I don’t ever really want to jump into the car, but when the car ride is over, I want to get out as fast as I can! I am completely housebroken. No accidents here! I like my crate and feel safe there. I also like napping on the rug in the living room. I haven’t learned yet that it is okay to jump on the couch. I did jump on the kitchen table a few times, but my foster family didn’t like that very much. Sometimes I jump on the counter if they leave food out because it's just so delicious! I’m still working on learning manners and commands, but I am definitely treat-motivated! I am heartworm negative, spayed, and up to date on all my vaccines. My skin wasn’t in the best shape at the shelter, so my foster family bathes me with medicated shampoo. I’m not a big fan of baths, and usually try to avoid them, but they just pick me up and put me in the bathtub. I’m a little heavy, around 80 lbs, but my foster dad is strong! Bathing me is usually a two person job, because who likes to get wet?!? I know I will flourish in the right home, I have SO much love to give and such a big heart! If you are kind and patient with me, I will warm up quickly and love you forever. I can't wait to find my forever home where I can share all my cuddles and have new adventures!
