My story

Meet Marley! A spirited six-year-old Labrador Retriever/Hound mix currently in San Marcos, CA, whose essence is a lively whirlwind of energy wrapped in a beautiful tricolor coat and anchored by a heart full of loyalty. At 65 pounds of pure muscle and love, Marley is the kind of companion who’s always up for a run in the yard, a good chew session with her favorite bone, or curling up beside her person for a well-earned nap! She’s impressively smart, having mastered commands like sit, stay, come, and leave it, especially when she knows her guardian is someone who exudes confidence and calm leadership. Marley thrives with structure and consistency and connects best with an experienced caregiver who understands the importance of strong, positive guidance. She does wonderfully with older children who respect her space and energy, and she’s fully house-trained, spayed, and microchipped. While Marley isn't suited for homes with other dogs or cats due to her history of dog aggression, especially around food and toys, she absolutely blossoms when she’s the center of attention and the only four-legged member of the family. She has had altercations with another dog in the past over food and toys, so it’s essential that she be placed in a home where she can enjoy her resources without competition. Loud noises like fireworks or passing trucks can make Marley anxious, and crates are not her favorite thing (she’d much rather be close to her person). Left alone too long, she may turn a throw pillow into a chew toy, so a home where she isn’t frequently alone would be a great fit. Marley’s perfect day? A long walk or a good romp in a secure yard, a solid game of fetch, a few tasty treats, and then a snuggly nap right next to her human!
