My story

Hello there! I’m Fahrenheit! You probably noticed there is something different about me … that’s right, I’m blind! I had a double enucleation at the beginning of February. I was found in the middle of busy road, not really moving and with broken blood vessels in my eyes. It was then medically necessary to remove both of my eyes and a biopsy confirmed that I had suffered some kind of blunt force trauma. I will admit, I have struggled a little bit adjusting to my new world but I’m doing great now! I navigate my foster room with ease, chase a lure on a wand toy, find my food and little box without fail! I’m not much of a climber and I’m not the biggest fan of being picked up, but I really love just lying next to you and getting pets. I am very playful so watch out! I get so excited by pets that I’ll roll over and try to attack your hand! Here’s some tips for living with me: I will some need extra time to adapt to new surroundings, and I need to be introduced gradually to a new house, room by room. Furniture and other things like my food station and litter box should be kept in the same place as much as possible so i can be confident and stay safe in moving around my new home, or if moved, a small change at any one time. It’s best not to carry me so I don’t get confused; if you pick me up, then putting me back down in the same spot is helpful. Floor coverings like rugs are also helpful for orientation. I can learn to navigate stairs, but baby gates can also be used to limit access if necessary. I also orient myself by listening to voices, so talking to me before picking me up or petting me is really helpful. I really like other kitties! In my foster home, I have a spunky little foster sister and it’s great having her around as she helps me “see” our foster room.
