My story

Pipher is a 5-year-old Toy Poodle mix with a gentle heart and a soft, cuddly nature. She can be shy and fearful when faced with new people or experiences, but underneath her timid exterior is a sweet little dog who simply wants to feel safe and loved. Once she feels comfortable, Pipher's affectionate side shines through and she is happiest being held close or curled up for a cuddle. Pipher gets along well with the resident dogs in her foster home and mostly prefers to quietly coexist with them. She is friendly and playful in her own gentle way and has been making small but meaningful steps in building her confidence. She has recently become comfortable exploring the backyard and continues to show that, with patience and encouragement, she is learning to enjoy new experiences. She also adores being carried around and happily soaks up affection from the children in her foster home. Like many dogs who are still learning that the world is a safe place, Pipher can become nervous and will often shake when experiencing something new, including car rides. She is currently using pee pads and making progress with her housetraining, though she still has occasional accidents as she learns her routine. Pipher can also be a little particular about her meals and prefers wet food and small treats, which suits her just fine after recently having dental work and tooth extractions. Pipher does have a few medical needs that her future family should be aware of. She is being treated for ear infections and mild irritation around her eyes and will need ongoing eye cleaning due to natural tearing. She also has some looseness in her kneecaps, which may need monitoring as she ages, especially if she ever becomes uncomfortable or lame. Recent bloodwork changes were thought to be related to inflammation from her dental disease and can simply be rechecked in the future as recommended by her veterinarian. Pipher's ideal home is a calm, patient one that will move at her pace and celebrate the little victories as she gains confidence. Because of her gentle and sensitive nature, she would do best with older, respectful children who can give her space and let her approach new experiences in her own time. Pipher is looking for a family that understands some dogs need a little extra reassurance while they learn that the world is not so scary. In return, she will reward her people with quiet companionship, endless cuddles, and the sweetest little soul to share their days with. Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption. Local adopters can take advantage of 50% off a training course at Ruff Haus in Barrie (www.ruffhaus.ca) and all adopters will also be signed up for Petcademy to offer 30 days of free text-based behavioural support. Please visit our website www.preciouspawsrescue.ca to submit an adoption application.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Pipher, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
