🐾 Meet Astra! 🐾 Astra is a 3-month-old PittAussie mix with a little something extra special about her—she’s deaf! 💕 Now before you feel sorry for her, let us tell you a secret… we’re still not 100% convinced she’s deaf. Maybe she just plays deaf really, really well! 😂 Either way, Astra doesn’t let it slow her down one bit. Being deaf can actually come with some pretty wonderful advantages. Astra isn’t distracted by every little sound around her, which can help her stay focused on the person she’s with. She won’t be bothered by thunderstorms, fireworks, loud traffic, vacuum cleaners, or all those random household noises that can make other dogs nervous. And because she already relies more heavily on watching the world around her, she is learning to pay close attention to body language and visual cues. Astra is smart, sweet, curious, and incredibly observant. One of the things we love most about her is how often she looks back to check in with you. That tells us she already has the foundation for learning hand signals and visual communication, which can be an amazing way to build a strong bond with her. She’s still a puppy, so she’ll need someone willing to teach her that being deaf doesn’t mean she gets a free pass on puppy rules! 😉 Positive reinforcement, consistency, and visual communication will be important as she grows. We also think Astra would absolutely benefit from having another well-balanced, confident dog in the home. A good canine role model can help show her the ropes, teach her appropriate doggy manners, and give her another way to learn about the world. Astra isn’t looking for someone to feel sorry for her. She’s looking for someone who sees what she CAN do. And trust us—this little girl has plenty of life, love, and personality to give.
