My story

NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.... “GIZMO” is a Maltipoo (Maltese / Poodle cross) who is10-years-old (born 10/23/2015), 9 pounds, 13″ tall, soft and an easy-going, smart, little boy. He had always been an only dog that was deeply loved and well cared for by his senior owner in Texas who recently passed away. Family members living here in Minnesota brought Gizmo back to Minnesota and surrender him to us so we can find his new “forever more” home. This gentle little boy is a “USAR Texas Certified Service Dog”. While we do have his identification card, this is the only information we have about that title: Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Texas law, there is no official government certification, state license, or mandatory registration for a service dog. Organizations like the US Service Animal Registrar (USAR) provide private optional documentation (such as ID cards and digital wallet passes), but federal law does not recognize any private registry as an official "certification". Hmmmm. Well, that really doesn’t make Gizmo a service dog, but he certainly is one very special boy as he just LOVES attention from men, women, and children. He is a Velcro boy and will follow you around the house (even into the bathroom) wanting to know what you’re doing and where you are going. Just sit down and he will jump up onto the couch to sit next to you or try to get onto your lap. Yet, Gizmo greatly enjoys going for his 1-mile daily walk. He even walks ahead of all our other Poodles! I am very surprised how quickly he moves when he runs up and down the steps, all around the house and will quickly jump up onto the furniture. And when he feels like it, he also enjoys play with the toys or with the other little Poodles. Gizmo is a perfect boy in our home (house-trained). He quickly comes when called, loves his food, and treats (just rattle the bag). *A SECURLY FENCED YARD will be required as Gizmo has always had one. *Preference will be given to a family with small dog experience and home most of the time.  Gizmo was a service companion to his previous owner. BUT PLEASE: *NO large dogs as he completely avoids them. *NO aggressive or assertive dogs (they scare him and me). *Like most rescue groups, we do NOT adopt our Poodles to homes more than 1 day’s drive (round trip) from our location here in central Minnesota. Sadly, during Gizmo’s recent dental appointment, his x-rays showed 3 teeth were infected (oral cysts). Our Vet could not remove them as there was a high risk they would break his jaw. We were referred to Blue Pearl in Arden Hills where they have Board Certified Veterinary Dentists. Gizmo’s dental surgery was a SUCCESS. He was also well cared for and deeply loved by everyone at Blue Pearl! THANK YOU to everyone who donated to help pay for that required surgery. Please be advised that yearly dental care and x-rays will prevent this from happening to any dog. Clearly Gizmo is now feeling so much better as he is so happy, silly, and fun loving. Plus, Gizmo’s final dental reports noted: “Generalized mild plaque and gingivitis”. Nice report for a 10-year-old little boy. He has now been Veterinary checked healthy, up to date on all his vaccinations, worming, dental work and has been Home Again microchipped/registered. His heartworm / Lymes / Ehrlich / Anaplasmosis (4DX) test was negative and placed on a preventative. Gizmo’s adoption fee is $300.00 which includes $22.00 for our 7.375% Minnesota state sales tax and helps pay for just some of his Veterinary expenses. Also included is his leash, collar, harness, a bag of quality dog food, a dog food container, treats, a cute toy box, some toys, a soft dog bed with a blanket and lots of good information to help your adoption move forward on the right paw! While he had never been kenneled, he is doing just fine while he is kenneled at night and when we are gone. Gizmo had been sleeping with his previous owner, so that choice is now up to you. Again, Gizmo is a VERY NICE, smart, fun loving, precious boy who wants and truly deserves a loving “forevermore” home.
