Video of New Grant Aims to Alleviate Pet Overpopulation in Alaska
Our very own Amanda Landis-Hanna, DVM, senior manager of veterinary outreach, talks with American Veterinarian about a project PetSmart Charities is funding to provide veterinary care in underserved areas of Alaska and cut down on pet overpopulation .
The program begins with a partnership with The University of Alaska (UA) veterinary college, which takes students through a 2-year program at the university. Upon completion, those students then complete their clinical years at Colorado State University (CSU).
Now, with a PetSmart Charities grant of $224,000 distributed over the course of the next 2 years, students from CSU and AU, as well as veterinarians and veterinary technicians throughout Alaska will be able to travel to remote areas and provide veterinary care to those who may not have access.
