In early October, PetSmart Charities teamed up with the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA) and the Vermont Humane Federation to train veterinarians on the latest in high-volume spay and neuter techniques.
During the two-day conference event, nationally-renowned experts in spay and neuter surgical techniques and anesthesia presented clinical research and protocols and facilitated a wet lab surgical training to give attendees a chance to put their learnings into practice.
With the help of a generous grant from PetSmart Charities for $15,000, the organizations hosted 16 veterinarians to participate in a wet lab surgical training at VT-CAN! Spay and neuter Clinic in Middlesex, Vermont.
“We were excited to be able to help our Vermont shelters and rescue groups while teaching other veterinarians our high-volume techniques,” said Dr. Sara White, president-elect of the VVMA who works with Spay ASAP, a mobile veterinary clinic providing affordable spay and neuter services. “PetSmart Charities has a long and generous history of funding spay and neuter trainings for veterinarians to increase the availability of services throughout the country and help reduce the homeless pet population by preventing unplanned litters, and we appreciate their wonderful support.”
Together, attendees spayed or neutered more than 100 dogs and cats at no cost to local shelter and rescue organizations, allowing them to collectively save just over $7,000 in medical fees.
