My story

DOB: November 20, 2018 Hi there. I'm Mystique! I am an adult tortoiseshell. Contrary to my name, I cannot shapeshift, nor do I have mutant powers. I would like to start off by saying that I am an extra-sweet cat. That's right, I'm diabetic! However, I do not let this get in the way of living my best life. I enjoy playing with all sorts of toys, my favourite being feathered toys on a wire stick. I also prefer to sit and nap close to my human, but I do enjoy my own personal space too from time-to-time. While I haven't yet shown any signs of being a lap cat with my foster dad, I do enjoy sitting close and sleeping in my cat bed next to my foster's bed and offering many slow blinks! I have lots of love to give. The rumours of 'tortietude' are really just that; rumours! I enjoy being brushed, however when I get into a sideways laying position, it is my way of saying that I am done for now. I am tolerable to being held, but not for too long. I have very good litter habits and eat and drink just fine. I can be very stressed at first when adjusting to a new environment, and just need a few days to decompress. I used to be skittish around new visitors coming into my home, but now I approach them with curiosity, and sometimes I give them kisses! I have been doing much better with visitors in my home. Mystique is a sweet, beautiful girl who has come a long way. She is currently diabetic and while in foster, she has yet to achieve remission. However, her glucose can managed well with two shots of insulin a day, every 12 hours. While in foster, Mystique's foster dad and TCR's health team have been able to determine how much insulin to administer depending on her current BG level. Mystique is strictly on wet food due to her diabetes, and she has no issues with eating. She has lost some weight while in foster care (possibly due to wet food diet but also a result of being diabetic), though fortunately her weight loss has begun to level off. Her weight should continue to be monitored often, along with her blood glucose levels. Mystique would do well in a quiet, single-pet home, as it is currently unknown whether she can do well with other cats or other pets in general. In any case, Mystique is best suited for anyone with experience in caring for diabetic cats, or anyone willing to learn. If there is one thing Mystique has taught her foster dad, it is that caring for and managing the blood sugar of an extra-sweet kitty is not as daunting as it seems! Are you the right home for the lovely Mystique?

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mystique, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
