My story

~ I can live in a single family home. Condos considered.~ I want to live with adults only.~ I may like to live with a likeminded dog but would prefer a cat free home.~ I am a high energy kind of dog and am looking for a home where I can get lots of exercise every day.~ I am a great dog with lots of potential. I need a family experienced in positive reinforcement training and reading canine body language.~ I am still learning and want to get off to a great start in my new home, so I will need to continue my training. (Training Required) Garfield is an energetic, intelligent young dog who loves mental stimulation and puzzle toys. He’s curious, alert, and eager to engage but can become jumpy and mouthy when overstimulated, frustrated, or stressed. As such, Garfield’s previous family, though devoted to him, recognized he would flourish better in a different environment and made the thoughtful decision to rehome him.In his foster home, Garfield adjusted well after an initial period of nervousness. He became affectionate and playful with his caregiver and seemed eager to form a bond with someone who provided calm structure and guidance. Garfield was eager to show off his Sit, Stay, Down, and Come—especially when food was involved—and he’s highly motivated to keep learning. Garfield isn’t overly vocal and doesn’t bark at people passing by, though he’s naturally observant and engaged with his environment. He’s housebroken, crate trained, and settles quietly in his crate when left alone for a few hours. He rides calmly in the car when crated and enjoys watching the world go by from a window. One of Garfield`s absolute favorite things is playing in water—whether it`s splashing in a kiddie pool or playing on the splash pad, he lights up with joy anytime water is involved. During moments of high arousal, frustration or stress, Garfield may jump up, mouth at hands or clothing, and grab miscellaneous items like laundry or pillows. These behaviors have become manageable when offered calm and steady leadership, structure, patience, and a calm, predictable routine. Garfield is seeking a home that can continue to provide this kind of environment that helps him stay regulated and focused. Garfield’s ideal adopter is an experienced dog person familiar with behaviors such as over-arousal, impulse control, handling sensitivity, and fear-based responses. His caregiver should understand how to read canine body language and respect boundarie
