My story

Meet Mariposa! Mariposa came to us from San Diego Humane Society - Oceanside on March 17th. She is 10 years old and weighs 10 lbs. Mariposa is the sweetest, snuggliest girl you’ll ever meet. She soaks up every bit of love she’s given. Whether curled up in your lap or trotting beside you on a walk, Mariposa is happiest when she’s close to her people. Don’t let her small size fool you—Mariposa is full of energy and adventure! She recently joined two of our shepherds on a 3-mile walk, easily keeping up without missing a beat. She’s living proof that little dogs can do big things! Mariposa also gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and loves to play, especially if toys are involved. Give her a squeaky ball or a tug rope, and she’s in heaven! Mariposa is diabetic, but don’t let that stand in your way of adding her to your family! She needs an insulin injection twice a day, and it's quick and easy because Mariposa is so cooperative. And don't worry about the cost; we will provide the insulin for her lifetime! Mariposa is currently on an extended Frosted Fling, so we can learn what she like in a home setting. Her Fling Mom shared this rave review: "Little Miss Mariposa! What a sweet, energetic, loving girl she is. Her puppy dog eyes and adorable face will win you over if her fun personality doesn’t get you first. Mariposa easily gets along with all dogs she meets as well as my own small dog. She is curious about cats but is not aggressive towards them. Mariposa is house-trained and lets me know that she has to go potty by running to the back door. If l'm gone, she will use a pad by the door. Mariposa likes to hang out in bed with me and get some extra attention before sleeping all night in her own bed beside mine. Mariposa is an angel about getting her insulin injections (check out the video!) We quickly got into a routine and she does not seem to mind it. And she isn’t a picky eater. In fact, she scarfs down her food then searches the immediate area for anything that might have gotten away! Mariposa is a puppy in disguise! She has that playful puppy energy and wants to give you lots of kisses. She likes soft toys especially her cloth ball. She is leash trained and walks great with my dog. She can easily walk a mile or more. Mariposa is great in the car and enjoys going new places and meeting new people. When she's at home alone, she doesn't exhibit any separation anxiety. Mariposa wants and needs a home of her own. She is absolutely perfect, but potential adopters have shied away from her due to the insulin shot(s) requirement. I myself have just learned how, and it’s super quick and easy. Please give Mariposa a chance, you will only be loved beyond measure. She's a gem!"
